Well, it seems the sun is well and truly setting on Daredevil: Born Again. After a string of creative shake-ups and Marvel’s typically cryptic handling of bad news, it's now official: the show will call it quits after its third season—which is still a year away from release, mind you. And for fans of Deborah Ann Woll, she’s finally put her own feelings into words.

The Final Curtain
The confirmation came on the heels of a Hollywood Reporter exclusive which broke the story: Marvel decided to make season three the final run, roughly two months after cameras stopped rolling. If you’re surprised there’s apparently three seasons, you’re not alone—the show’s tumultuous production probably blurred the timeline for most people. Season three is now deep into postproduction, with one problem: it’s lost its showrunner.
Dario Scardapane, who was only brought on after the original creative team was axed, has now exited too. His contract wasn’t renewed, so he's bowed out just as things are being wrapped up in the editing suite. According to one of Hollywood Reporter’s sources, most of the postproduction work is pretty much finished, at least. No one’s officially stepped in to steer the ship for this final lap.
The Bumpy Road
If you’ve not tracked the drama, Born Again never had an easy ride since Disney+ revived the Daredevil franchise in 2022. Marvel had big plans—an initial order of 18 episodes, longer than most streaming dramas dare to attempt. Then came the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023, and the whole thing got sent back to the drawing board. The first creative team, Matt Corman and Chris Ord, were shown the door as well.
Scardapane, best known for his stint on Netflix’s The Punisher, was drafted in as the new showrunner. Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (previously seen on Moon Knight) joined up as executive producers. Somewhere along the way, Marvel halved ambitions—what was meant to be 18 episodes has now become 17 episodes, split across two seasons. Season two saw Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) behind bars, while Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) guns for the New York mayoralty and goes after every vigilante in sight. Season three is now poised to be the last we’ll see of this incarnation.

No surprise Marvel is trimming back TV at this point. Their next effort is VisionQuest—the Paul Bettany-led spin-off—which is out in October. If you're still waiting on resolution for Murdock and Karen Page (that is, if the turbulence hasn’t lost you altogether), you’ll have to hang on until 2027 for Daredevil’s swansong.
