As Daredevil: Born Again season 2 races toward its finale, the Marvel series is bleeding viewers—raising the stakes for a comeback in the closing stretch.

Looks like trouble in Hell's Kitchen — the numbers are in for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and they're not what Marvel was probably hoping for. If you're watching the new season, you might've noticed the buzz is bigger online than in the viewership stats.

Let's Talk Numbers (And They're Not Pretty)

According to Luminate data pulled for the first five episodes of each season (and passed on by ComicBook.com):

  • Season 2: 4.5 million season views, 10.8 million hours watched, 652 million minutes logged
  • Season 1: 8.3 million season views, 24 million hours watched, 1.44 BILLION minutes logged

That shakes out to a nosedive of roughly 46% fewer views, and, maybe worse, a 54% collapse in hours watched. So, more than half the viewing time just vanished between the seasons. Ouch.

To add insult to injury: season 2 didn't even make Nielsen's Top 10 streaming originals during premiere week. And before you ask, nope, Marvel Studios hasn't confirmed or commented on any of these numbers—these are third-party stats, but they paint a pretty clear (and grim) picture.

But, Is The Show Actually Better?

Here's the strange part: fans online seem way happier with this season. Critics (and, full disclosure, our own Alex Maidy) are saying season 2 is actually an upgrade.

'Better than the first season and on par with the Netflix series' strongest elements, Daredevil: Born Again is easily one of the most enjoyable mature superhero series ever, earning a spot alongside The Penguin. Embracing what makes Daredevil one of the most underrated Marvel Comics characters and turning it into thrilling television, Born Again‘s second season blends timely social commentary, top-notch action, and memorable characters into a fantastic run of television. I cannot wait to see where this series goes next and if the surprises revealed this season portend some big news coming soon from the MCU.'

There's legit excitement for the finale, too — people keeping up with the show say it's supposed to be can't-miss stuff. Maybe that will nudge the numbers a bit higher, (or maybe not — it's hard to claw your way back when half the audience is gone).

What's Next For Daredevil & Friends?

Even with lackluster numbers, Marvel's not bailing: a third season is already in production. And in classic Marvel fashion, there's a spin-off special on the way too. The Punisher: One Last Kill, starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, drops on May 12. That's likely to draw some of the old-school Netflix crowd back, at least for one night.

So, have you stuck with Daredevil: Born Again this year? Impressed with the direction, or part of the missing 50%? Drop your thoughts—there's definitely a conversation to have about why a show can get better but lose viewers anyway.
