Crystal Lake showrunner wants more Sackhead Jason and franchise favorites in season 2
Crystal Lake’s second season is eyeing more fan-favourite faces from the original Friday the 13th, and Brad Caleb Kane hints they could appear sooner than you’d think.
Right, so Crystal Lake Season 2 has been making the rumour rounds again, and if you like your slashers with a bit of 80s nostalgia, there’s actually something noteworthy this time. In short: the Friday the 13th prequel series might be about to bring a lot more familiar faces out of the woods — provided it gets another run.
What’s Actually New?
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has spilled a bit about what could be on the horizon if Crystal Lake returns. Chatting with Bloody Disgusting, he gave the clearest hint yet that Season 2 would properly bridge the gap to the original films — not just by timeline, but by actually bringing some of those legacy characters in.
Kane told Bloody Disgusting: 'If we’re lucky enough to get a season two, I already sort of have a framework in my mind. I do know thematically what I want to touch on, which is a little bit different than part one. I do know that I want there to be a whole hell of a lot more of Sackhead Jason, I’ll tell you that. I want there to be a whole lot more carnage.'
He then made it pretty obvious we’d see a few more old hands if the show gets another go: Kane said there are plenty of franchise favourites who didn’t actually appear in Season 1, and he’s itching to work them in.
The Not-So-Happy Ending
If you’re wondering where things left off, you probably won’t be surprised that it’s all a bit of a bloodbath. The Season 1 finale ramps up with Jason — now a hulking adult in the sort-of iconic sack-head phase — showing up just as his dad, Elias Wittering, is trying to drag Pamela Voorhees off through the forest with a bunch of goons. Things escalate, as they tend to out here: Jason smashes Elias’s skull in (his own dad, mind), lets his mother off unharmed, and then legs it after taking a shot from Crazy Ralph. Pamela? She goes full wild, starts laughing into the night, and declares the forest hers and Jason’s now. Absolutely normal behaviour.
- Adult Jason kills his father (skull crushed, no subtlety there)
- Elias and cronies try kidnapping Pamela Voorhees
- Crazy Ralph has a pop at Jason with a gun, but Jason escapes
- Pamela embraces the chaos, claims the woods for herself and Jason
- The episode ends on a campfire tale flashback, with young Steve Christy telling the story of Jason — the perfect set-up for more old-school references
The S1 finale closes with a campfire scene nodding to Friday the 13th Part 2, clearly laying track for a familiar cast of characters to finally step into the story.
What’s Next?
The elephant in the room is that Season 2 still hasn’t officially been ordered. So, all these teases hinge on someone greenlighting the next batch. In the meantime, if you fancy a rewatch or need to catch up, Crystal Lake Season 1 is up for streaming on Peacock.
Season 2 is not yet confirmed — fans are still waiting on the renewal news.
