Chris Pratt’s Sci-Fi Blockbuster Finds New Streaming Home in 2026
Chris Pratt’s action-packed sci-fi film is set to leave Prime Video and debut on Peacock in 2026, with a sequel already in the works. Find out what’s next for this divisive hit.
Chris McKay, best known for his work on The Lego Batman Movie, made his live-action directorial debut with a high-octane science fiction adventure starring Chris Pratt. The story centres on Dan Forester, a former Green Beret turned biology teacher, who is unexpectedly drawn back into conflict when time travellers from the year 2051 arrive with a desperate plea. Humanity faces extinction at the hands of a lethal alien species, and present-day civilians and soldiers are conscripted to fight for the future.
Alongside Pratt, the cast features Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. Dan joins forces with a brilliant scientist and his estranged father in a last-ditch effort to save the world from annihilation.
From Prime Video to Peacock
Originally produced by Amazon Studios, the film was first released on Prime Video after plans for a theatrical launch were derailed by the pandemic. Despite a hefty $200 million budget and initial ambitions for a cinema run, the film quickly became a streaming sensation, drawing in 2.41 million households during its opening week.
Now, the title is set for a new chapter. Beginning 1 January 2026, viewers will be able to watch the film on Peacock, offering a fresh platform for those who missed it the first time around or fancy a rewatch. The move marks a significant shift in streaming rights, giving audiences another way to experience the action-packed spectacle.
Reception and Franchise Plans
The film’s reception was rather mixed among critics, who awarded it a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, were more generous, with a 76% approval rating. The blend of time travel, alien threats, and family drama proved divisive, but undeniably captured the attention of many.
With its 138-minute runtime and PG-13 rating, the film sits firmly within the action, science fiction, and adventure genres. The screenplay was penned by Zach Dean, with production credits going to David S. Goyer, Jules Daly, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, Don Granger, and Adam Kolbrenner.
Sequel in the Works
Plans for a follow-up are already underway. Amazon is keen to build a franchise around Chris Pratt’s character, and director Chris McKay has confirmed that a sequel is on the horizon.
“It is happening relatively soon,”
he shared, highlighting the emotional and comedic range Pratt brings to the role. While details remain under wraps, anticipation is building among fans eager to see where the story heads next.
The original film, released on 2 July 2021, has left a lasting impression, and with a sequel in development, the saga is far from over.
