Chris Pratt reveals where Super Mario Movie 3 really stands — and it’s earlier than you think
Chris Pratt has offered a cheery check-in on Super Mario Movie 3 — and he’s game for another outing — spelling out where things stand.
Time for a quick update from the Mushroom Kingdom — and a bit of Star Fox, apparently. Chris Pratt's been dropping hints about Super Mario Movie 3, and while it's early days yet, there are new details worth clocking if you're following Nintendo's cinematic universe as closely as I am.
Chris Pratt on Standby
Chatting at the The Terminal List Series 2 premiere, Pratt confirmed the next Mario outing is still in the writing phase. If you were hoping voice recording had started, don't get your hopes up. He's basically waiting for the call — and he's keen to get back in the recording booth when the story’s sorted.
Here's how Pratt put it in that ScreenRant interview when asked if he's already been back as Mario:
No, not yet, but I'm so grateful. Those guys are amazing, and the minute they want to have me back to do it, I'd be down to do it.
He also added that the creative team are basically just figuring out the story at the moment. So, it’s not quite 'pipes at the ready', more 'maps on the table'.
Blockbuster Numbers and New Faces
This cautious approach makes sense — Nintendo can afford to take its time considering the last two films absolutely raked it in. The Super Mario Bros. Movie brought home over $1.36 billion globally after its 2023 debut, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shot past $1 billion following its release in April 2026.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie broke the $1.36 billion mark worldwide in its first year on release.
That sequel also raised eyebrows by shifting up the cast and planting seeds for future crossovers — which brings us to the real curiosity about who's joining the party next.
Daisy and Fox McCloud Teasers
Both Princess Daisy and Fox McCloud made their animation debuts in Super Mario Galaxy Movie's post-credit scenes, which is about as on-the-nose as you can get for flagging future appearances. Daisy gets a short scene stopping Ukiki from robbing a Whittle in Gateway Galaxy, which is properly niche if you know your Mario lore, but doesn't confirm what sort of part she’ll actually play in the third film. The only certainty is she's out there now, likely to be paired with Luigi in some way, if they follow the game canon.
Fox McCloud, meanwhile — voiced by Glen Powell, by the way — pops up to help transport Bowser and Bowser Jr. to prison, hinting at even broader Nintendo crossovers in the pipe. After that, he’s off back to his home world: blink and you’d miss it, but it’s a big tease nonetheless.
For now, none of this is official: both Daisy and Fox could have much more to do in the next film, or they could turn out to be passing cameos. With scriptwork still in progress, every Nintendo property is effectively up for grabs.
