Chris Pratt confirms Star-Lord’s MCU return: “He’s not going anywhere”
Chris Pratt says Marvel’s taken “hard action” to lock in an official MCU return for a certain character — fancy a guess?
Right, so if you’ve been wondering what’s happened to Star-Lord since the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, you’re not the only one. Back in 2023, Marvel practically carved it in stone that Chris Pratt’s cosmic joker would be making some sort of comeback, but three years later, not a whisper—until now.
The studio’s been tighter than a locked blast door about Peter Quill’s next move in the MCU. All we’ve had to go on is that massive “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return” title card splashed at the end of Vol. 3, and plenty of wishful thinking from the fanbase. But Chris Pratt himself has finally broken the stalemate, giving us the most concrete update yet about Quill’s future, and—spoiler—it’s no minor tease.
Pratt Breaks Cover
Pratt was doing the press rounds for The Terminal List Season 2 when he popped up on The Playlist's Bingeworthy podcast. Tucked into the usual promotional chat, he revealed that proper, real-world momentum is actually happening behind the Marvel scenes. According to Pratt, his conversations with Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito have become more than just polite nods—they’re now about action: how, not just if, Star-Lord comes back.
Of course, Marvel’s paranoia about leaks is legendary, so Pratt didn’t drop any proper details about how, when, or even in what film or show his return will take place. But he did finally confirm that we’re not just imagining things waiting for Marvel to pay off their big end-credits promise. Here’s what he told the podcast, in as clear a language as the studio will allow:
"You'll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I'm not at liberty to say when that's going to be, but he's not going anywhere."
So, if you were starting to think he’d been deleted from the multiverse, you can put that theory in the bin.
What’s Out There For Quill?
Now, as for where he’ll pop up—well, that’s where the guessing game gets fun. Quill’s technically based on Earth now, but this is Marvel, so expect him to be back in orbit before long. The most popular theory? He might reappear in that long-brewing Nova project, maybe this time as the wise old head passing on tips to greener spaceheads—or possibly even as part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes if the threats get too galactic to ignore.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for 18 December 2026, with Secret Wars following on 17 December 2027.
With those two big crossovers—Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars—steamrolling toward us, moves are clearly being made behind the scenes. Marvel are once again keeping plot details buried in a vault somewhere, but it’s no longer all wishful thinking: concrete steps are being taken, and if Pratt’s word is anything to go by, Star-Lord is properly back on Marvel’s drawing board.
