Good news, Gleeks: a casting update for Ryan Murphy’s Glee reboot confirms fan‑favourite Murphy stars are back in the mix — but which ones?

Right, dust off your show choir uniform and brace yourself for some nostalgia — because Glee is coming back, and it looks like a few very familiar faces are along for the ride. It seems Disney+ and Hulu reckon now’s the time to resurrect Ryan Murphy’s musical mayhem, and apparently, a number of the original cast are already limbering up their jazz hands.

Old Favourites on Board

Let’s get straight to the most important bit. According to a new scoop from Variety, Lea Michele is lined up to return as Rachel Berry in the reboot. Now, the sources behind this are unnamed production types — one apparently insisted ‘She’s in.’ Meanwhile, another piped up with reassurance that while it’s ‘still early-ish days’, the team is delighted to be, as the saying goes, getting the band back together. That said, neither Michele nor Murphy’s official folks have spoken on the record, so technically it’s still on the rumour pile. But, come on — where Rachel Berry goes, Glee follows.

Lea Michele is reportedly set to return as Rachel Berry in Murphy's upcoming Glee reboot.

But wait, there’s more. Heather Morris (yes, Brittany S. Pierce herself) took to Instagram to confirm she’s on board — in her typically off-beat style, claiming Brittany had spent the missing years lost in the sewers but is now ‘alive and well’ and ready for more #Glee. Chord Overstreet, better known as Sam Evans to fans, chimed in on X with a not-so-subtle hint: ‘Reunited and it feels so good!’ So, if you were worried the reboot would be a fresh batch of nobodies — it looks like at least these three are ready to dig out the sheet music once again.

Murphy’s Reunion Mission

Now, here’s something you probably didn’t expect. In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Ryan Murphy revealed he’s already reached out to ten of the original cast. He said they were ‘very enthusiastic’ about the prospect (and of course, had loads of questions). Clearly, the aim is to deliver a reboot that doesn’t completely rewrite what fans already love.

Where We Left Rachel Berry

Quick recap for those who haven’t done a Glee binge since the mid-2010s: Glee wrapped up back in 2015 after six seasons of high-drama choir action on Fox. Michele’s Rachel went from being supremely ambitious (and let’s be honest, more than a bit intense) to achieving her dream — in the series finale, she nabs a Best Actress Tony Award for a show called Jane Austen Sings and winds up married to her one-time nemesis Jesse St. James (who’s now a big-name Broadway director, naturally).

Glee ended its six-season run in 2015, closing Rachel Berry's story with a Tony win and marriage to Broadway rival Jesse St. James.

And if you really want the full closure: in the finale’s last flash-forward, Rachel pops up as the surrogate for Kurt and Blaine, proving even in retirement she’s still the centre of McKinley High’s universe.
