Chris Hemsworth’s Crime 101 Is Coming to Prime Video—Here’s When to Watch
Chris Hemsworth's crime thriller Crime 101 is headed to Prime Video, with the star thanking fans as the streamer readies its release.
Did you miss Chris Hemsworth trying his hand at being a 'master thief' earlier this year? Don’t kick yourself—his latest crime thriller, Crime 101, is about to drop on streaming, making it absurdly easy to see if all the hype from theatrical release holds up from your sofa.
Streaming Release Coming Up Fast
Here’s the deal: Hemsworth himself hit social media this week to announce that Crime 101 lands on Prime Video starting April 1. And no, that's not a prank. (Yes, the whole April 1st thing does feel like a set-up for an ‘April Fool’ moment, but apparently the only joke will be if you miss it again.)
'Excited to announce Crime 101 launching on Amazon Prime April 1st! Grateful for all the incredible support and feedback that’s come in so far. It means the world to see it resonate with you all. Huge thanks to everyone who’s watched, shared, and shown love so far, couldn’t do it without you.'
What Crime 101 is Actually About
Okay, so this is classic crime movie territory with a few surprising faces. Hemsworth plays a jewel thief making his living along Los Angeles’s sun-parched 101 freeway, always one slip ahead of the cops. Naturally, he’s after one last, life-changing score—because of course he is—but then things get messy:
- Chris Hemsworth is the jewel thief who can’t leave the game behind.
- Halle Berry turns up as a worn-out insurance broker at her own crossroads, drawn in as their lives intersect.
- Mark Ruffalo plays the determined detective who thinks he’s found the criminal’s pattern and is slowly tightening the screws.
As these three collide, the big heist gets tangled. The trailer makes it clear: boundaries between good guys and bad guys get murky, everyone’s desperate, and there’s absolutely no going back.
Does the Movie Actually Pull It Off?
If you’re wondering if this is the next big crime classic, the early reviews are mostly solid—if a little cautious. Our own EJ Tangonan was pretty into it… until the last act, at least. His main beef? All those threads the movie lays out just don’t tie up as satisfyingly as you’d hope. If you like a tight, crowd-pleasing ending, maybe set expectations just a notch lower.
To put it in his words:
'Frankly, the main thing that really brought the movie down a bit for me was the ending. There are a ton of seeds that were planted and things set in motion to explode for the finale and Crime 101 just didn’t stick the landing enough for me… I left the movie with a bit of a dissatisfied feeling, despite enjoying everything before it for the most part. I do recommend it for crime fans but it falls just short of something great.'
Bottom Line
If you love a slick heist and straightforward (if not perfect) crime drama, this one’s probably worth your time. Sure, the ending might not knock your socks off, but Hemsworth, Berry, and Ruffalo all seem to be having a blast, and for me, that's usually worth two hours on the couch.
Mark your calendars for April 1, fire up Prime Video, and let the streaming heists begin.
