Netflix drops the full trailer for Apex, a white-knuckle survival thriller led by Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton, streaming April 24, 2026. Seeking solace in the Australian outback, Theron’s character is thrust into a ruthless fight for survival.

Okay, Netflix just dropped the first full trailer for Apex—which, on paper at least, looks like it's going for that 'Charlize Theron fights for her life in the outback' vibe. Mark your calendars, or just mentally note it for two years from now: this thing isn't out until April 24, 2026. (Yes, 2026. Try to remember anything that far ahead.)

The Set-Up

Theron stars as a woman with a lot to process—she's grieving and heads off into the wilds of Australia to, I guess, reconnect with herself or nature or both. Naturally, her solo retreat gets interrupted by something way worse than bad weather: she ends up being hunted through the wilderness by a psychopath. It's a high-stakes survival situation, so expect more running and fighting for your life than, say, hugging koalas.

The Trailer Vibes

The Apex trailer lays it out: Charlize Theron's character is thrown straight into a cat-and-mouse chase with someone you definitely wouldn't want to meet in the woods—played by Taron Egerton, who is leaning hard into 'bad guy' energy here. The action is intense and, from the looks of it, heavy on those tense 'is she going to make it?' moments. There's plenty of first-rate panic and a lot of running around rocky terrain, thanks to shooting in New South Wales and the Blue Mountains, so at least the scenery will look great even if Theron's character isn't having the best vacation.

Who's Behind This Thing?

  • Charlize Theron (obviously), going up against
  • Taron Egerton (fresh off more likable gigs; here he's the predator, not the prey)
  • Eric Bana is also in the mix (always reliable, and let's face it, it's an Australian movie—gotta have Bana somewhere)

On the director front, it's Baltasar Kormákur, who's no stranger to people getting pushed to their limits in dramatic places (Everest, Adrift, Beast—catching a theme here?). The script is by Jeremy Robbins.

Producers are an all-star team-up: Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready (for Chernin Entertainment); Ian Bryce (for his own shop); and yes, Charlize Theron herself, A.J. Dix, and Beth Kono (for Secret Menu). Kormákur is pulling double duty, producing too, via RVK Studios. Executive producers include Ray Angelic, Will McCance, and Dawn Olmstead.

Bigger Picture: What's Next for the Cast?

Charlize Theron isn't slowing down—she's also lined up for something called Tyrant, a Netflix 'culinary thriller.' That's a new combo. Closer on the horizon, she'll be showing up in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is about as 'star-studded' as epic dramas get. Meanwhile, Taron Egerton is heading in a (much) lighter direction with the comedy thriller Everybody Wants to F— Me. So if you don't catch him as a psycho here, you'll get another shot soon.

'The film layers emotional depth into a high-stakes fight for survival' — so says the official Netflix synopsis, which is basically code for 'therapist bills and action set-pieces, coming right up.'

In short: Apex is giving us A-list actors, tense wilderness showdowns, and enough behind-the-scenes heavyweights to keep expectations high. There's a long wait until 2026, but based on this trailer, Netflix is aiming for prestige survival thriller territory, not just another throwaway action movie.
