Warning: massive spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Born Again—the devil of Hell’s Kitchen is back, and the hits come hard, fast, and with consequences that won’t wash out.

Alright, let’s talk about Daredevil: Born Again—more specifically, what the heck is going on with Foggy Nelson, and whether Marvel’s favorite human cinnamon roll is really gone for good. Because if you watched the premiere of the Disney+ reboot and thought, 'Wait, what did they just do?', you weren’t alone.

Foggy Nelson’s Very Bad, Very Brief Day

So here’s the setup: Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is underway, most fans seem to like it, but there’s still a whole crowd not over the fact that, in the very first scene of Season 1, Matt Murdock (that’s Charlie Cox) had to watch his longtime BFF and law partner Foggy (Elden Henson) get murdered by Bullseye (Wilson Bethel). And if that wasn’t enough, Bullseye was on a mission from Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer), cementing the kill as some real mob boss villainy.

Not only did they kill off Foggy—a main character from the Netflix years—but they did it right away, no warm-up. Matt hears Foggy’s heart stop. Fans have been reeling.

Asking the Real Question: Is Foggy Actually Dead?

Here’s where Marvel logic comes in: when someone dies, you can never be too sure. And in this franchise, death is barely an inconvenience; call it a day off work. Sure, the show made it look and sound final. And Charlie Cox (who plays Matt) basically told fans it’s not happening… but now even he’s joking about just how long 'dead' ever lasts in the Marvel sandbox.

At C2E2 over the weekend, Cox tossed out his own (totally not-official-but-very-Marvel) pitch for how Foggy could make a comeback:

"I think Foggy should be resurrected by Elektra and then he takes over leadership of the Hand."

Okay, Cox. Not sure if that’s what anyone meant when they said, 'bring Foggy back,' but I appreciate the commitment to going full comic book.

The Comics Have Gone There (and Weirder)

Just for context: Elektra (Elodie Yung in the old Netflix version) may have been resurrected herself, but as far as Marvel canon goes, she doesn't exactly have a punch card for bringing other people back. As for Foggy Nelson heading up the Hand? That's a ninja death cult-slash-crime syndicate, and Foggy’s biggest crime is usually bad puns.

Still, the comics have actually played with very similar ideas. Take the 'Red Fist Saga' (Daredevil, 2022–2023, by Chip Zdarsky): Foggy is killed, gets resurrected by the Hand—except he’s more of a spy than a boss. Once Daredevil beats the Hand, their magic fizzles, and Foggy literally crumbles to dust. Matt gets so angry, he sacrifices himself and ends up in Hell to break Foggy out—after wrestling with a big demon called the Beast. You know, typical law office drama.

So… Could the Show Really Do That?

My best guess: probably not. Daredevil: Born Again is still (mostly) grounded and gritty. Bringing in the Hell dimension and magic zombie Foggy might be a little much for where the show's headed. But hey, it’s Marvel, and stranger things have happened in adaptations.

Also worth noting: Foggy fake-died even before that. Back in a 2006 comic, he gets stabbed while visiting Matt in prison (bad luck, Foggy), and it looks fatal—until, surprise, he’s just been shuffled off to witness protection. Disney+ could take a page from that playbook and have Elden Henson pop up alive and well in a few months.

What’s Actually Happening This Season?

  • Elden Henson is back for Season 2, but the smart money says it’s only in flashbacks (unless Marvel’s playing the long game and hiding a twist—pure speculation, though).
  • Charlie Cox is, as always, stirring the rumor pot every chance he gets.
  • New episodes arrive Tuesdays on Disney+, with the next two—'Shoot the Moon' and 'The Scales & the Sword'—landing as a double feature on March 31.

Bottom line: this is Marvel. If you’re hoping to see Foggy Nelson shrug off death and get back in the courtroom—or running a ninja cult—don’t rule anything out.
