Bruce Springsteen’s biographical film, starring Jeremy Allen White, heads to Hulu and Disney+ in January 2026 after a lukewarm cinema run. Will streaming audiences embrace it?

Bruce Springsteen’s journey to the small screen is nearly complete. The much-discussed biographical film, with Jeremy Allen White stepping into the shoes of the legendary musician, is set to arrive on Hulu and Disney+ for international viewers from 23 January 2026. This follows its earlier cinema release on 24 October 2025, which, despite high hopes, didn’t quite set the box office alight.

Directed by Scott Cooper and adapted from Warren Zanes’ 2023 book, the film delves into the making of Springsteen’s acclaimed album, “Nebraska.” The cast list reads like a who’s who of contemporary talent: Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz all feature alongside White. The film’s world premiere took place at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival on 29 August 2025, where it was initially tipped as a possible awards contender.

From Silver Screen to Streaming

After its cinema debut, the film became available for digital purchase on 23 December 2025, with a home video release following on 20 January 2026. The streaming launch, set 91 days after the theatrical opening, aligns with Disney’s new approach for its releases. In the United States, those with the Hulu and Disney+ bundle will be able to watch from the same date as international audiences.

Despite the anticipation, the film’s reception was rather mixed. It currently holds a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and while Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal of Springsteen did earn him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, the film itself struggled to find its footing with critics and the public alike.

Box Office Blues

Financially, the film’s performance was less than stellar. Opening in fourth place with takings of $9.1 million, it quickly slipped out of the domestic top ten after just three weeks. The final tally stood at $22 million in the US and $45 million worldwide, falling short of its $55 million production budget. Not exactly the triumphant return to form some had hoped for.

Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope. Other Disney releases from 2025, such as “Snow White” and “Tron: Ares,” also stumbled in cinemas but found a second wind on Disney+. There’s every chance Springsteen’s story could follow suit, especially with the dedicated fanbase he commands.

More for the Fans

For those keen to explore further, the streaming platforms will also offer related documentaries, including “Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live” and “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.” These additions might just tempt die-hard fans and curious newcomers alike to give the biopic another look.
