Black Panther 3 Update Hints the MCU Is Back on Track
Black Panther 3 just got a promising boost, reigniting momentum for Marvel’s Wakandan saga. After the 2018 phenomenon and 2022’s Wakanda Forever, the next chapter is taking shape—welcome news for an MCU that first met T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War.
Time for a little Wakanda news dump—Marvel is making moves on Black Panther 3, and while it’s all studio chess pieces right now, fans finally have something legit to chew on.
Black Panther’s History So Far
Quick refresher: Chadwick Boseman first showed up as T'Challa back in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and then the original Black Panther stormed theaters in 2018. Boseman’s passing in 2020 hit hard, but Marvel kept the story going with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). That time, Letitia Wright's Shuri took over the big suit. Both movies were helmed by Ryan Coogler, and let's be honest—without him, none of this would be half as compelling.
Marvel also used Wakanda as a launching pad for a pile of spinoffs. Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne), aka Ironheart, was introduced in Wakanda Forever before spinning off into her own Disney+ series. If you blinked, you also might've missed Eyes of Wakanda, an animated anthology that dropped on Disney+ last year.
So, What’s Actually Happening With Black Panther 3?
Rumors have floated for ages, but the first concrete sign of forward progress just happened. Marvel quietly registered a new production company, 'Fragment Productions LLC,' and no, that’s not just a random name generator—it's tied directly to Black Panther 3. That's according to Demet Koc over at Nexus Point News, who has a decent track record with this kind of thing.
'Marvel Studios just filed "Fragment Productions LLC," which is the production company for Black Panther 3.' – Demet (@demetherself), April 4, 2026
This may not make headlines on the Today Show, but, in Hollywood speak, forming a production company usually means the studio isn’t just talking about a sequel anymore—they’re greasing the wheels to actually make it.
What Do We (Sort of) Know?
- Ryan Coogler is supposed to return to direct, and it's apparently the next film he wants to do.
- Marvel hasn’t slapped a release date on the movie yet.
- The plot is still totally under wraps—no news leaks, not even fake ones, so your guess is as good as mine.
- Coogler has at least hinted that Denzel Washington could have a role (that’d be wild, and honestly, long overdue in the MCU).
- If filming starts this year, Black Panther 3 might land in one of those mysterious MCU slots in 2028 (the ones they reserve for 'Untitled Marvel Movie' on every calendar).
- Depending on timing, this could actually be the first movie after Avengers: Secret Wars (which is scheduled for 2027). So, Wakanda could essentially be kicking off the next Marvel era, whatever that ends up looking like.
- Phase 7 is rumored to be all about the X-Men, so don’t be surprised if some mutants drop by Wakanda for dramatic effect.
So, if you’re into reading studio tea leaves, this is about as real as it gets before Marvel actually hauls out the cast in front of a massive Comic-Con crowd for the free hype. No story details yet, but it’s safe to say that Coogler’s in the driver’s seat, and Marvel wouldn’t be moving this fast if they weren’t serious.
Stay tuned—if anything leaks (or if Denzel says an offhand word at some panel), we’ll be all over it.
