Beef Season 2 is streaming on Netflix, and the creator says he’s ready to dive into Season 3 — but despite his interest, there’s still no official renewal.

So, Beef Season 2 just hit Netflix, and of course the big question is: are we getting a Season 3, or was that wild ride the end of the line? There’s been an update from the show’s creator, and honestly, it’s a little bit of both kinds of news.

Lee Sung Jin Weighs In (Sort Of...)

At the Season 2 premiere, creator Lee Sung Jin pretty much said he’s exhausted. After spending three years grinding away at scripts, he’d like nothing better than to collapse onto a bed and catch up on lost sleep. Here’s the vibe he put out:

'At the moment, I’m going to do this. Go home to my one-year-old daughter, and try to get some sleep.'

Hard to blame him. He also admitted he’d be fine if Season 2 ended up being the show’s conclusion. But here’s where things get a little fuzzy: he isn’t closing the door on a third round either. If Netflix calls, he’s not saying 'never.'

About That 'Three Seasons Mapped Out' Thing...

But if you go back just a little, Lee was a lot more enthusiastic about the future. In a 2023 Rolling Stone interview, he said he had 'three seasons mapped out in my head.' He didn’t get into specifics, but called it a 'really big general idea.' He also admitted that even though Season 1 felt like it wrapped things up, there was extra story he’d be happy to tell.

That optimism has cooled a bit since then (again: parenthood and burnout are real), but it’s not completely off the table.

Where Netflix Stands (and Should We Get Our Hopes Up?)

Officially, Beef hasn’t been renewed for a third season yet, so don’t start planning your watch party just now. What’s interesting, though, is that Deadline just said Lee Sung Jin renewed his overall deal with Netflix, which started in 2023. Clearly, the streamer wants to keep him around—whether that’s for more Beef or something else is anyone’s guess.

How Beef Works (If You’re New Here)

If you’ve noticed a pattern, you’re not wrong. Each season is basically a full reset: new cast, new story, even a new setting. The current theory is that Season 3 (if it happens) will stick to that anthology vibe.

So, How’s Season 2 Doing?

Beef Season 2 dropped with eight episodes, and this round focuses on a young couple getting pulled into an escalating battle between their older employees. Definitely a different flavor than Season 1, but still in the same twisted family drama ballpark.

  • Critics are loving it: 86% 'certified fresh' on Rotten Tomatoes
  • The audience is... less enthusiastic: 63% on the Popcornmeter
  • Main cast includes Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny
  • Plus: Youn Yuh-jung, Seoyeon Jang, Song Kang-ho, Matthew Kim, William Fichtner, Mikaela Hoover

As of right now, you can catch all of Season 2 streaming on Netflix.

The Bottom Line

So, is Beef coming back for more? No one’s promising anything, but Lee Sung Jin’s got ideas (assuming he ever wakes up from his well-deserved nap). For now, you’ll just have to settle for rewatching those new episodes—or, you know, binge Season 1 again and try to spot the connections.
