Andy Muschietti still wants to unleash a six-hour It supercut, stitching It and It: Chapter Two into one mega-haunt, but for now time is the only monster in his way.

Here’s one for folks who love a story that runs way longer than your average Marvel marathon: Andy Muschietti still wants to give us a mega-sized, six-hour-plus 'It' supercut. Yep, you read that right—if you take both of his Stephen King 'It' movies, you’re already looking at about five hours of haunted clown mayhem. But Muschietti’s been talking for years about turning it into a single, gigantic cut, with even more footage and maybe even a couple of brand-new scenes. So what’s the holdup? Well, life.

Why Isn’t This Already a Thing?

Short answer: the guy’s been busy. He actually floated this 'It' supercut idea right after wrapping up 'It: Chapter Two' back in 2017, and even chatted with Warner Bros. and New Line about making it happen. But then his schedule blew up—he was knee-deep in work on DC’s 'The Flash', plus he and his sister (and producing sidekick) Barbara Muschietti started working on the TV prequel 'It: Welcome to Derry' for HBO. All that new Pennywise business left zero time to Frankenstein together an old project, you know? In Andy’s own words:
"We didn’t have time to do it because we were involved in all kind of projects. The show had a priority over the supercut. We’re in a moment now where we can definitely go to the studio and ask for support, but when is the question. They can say, 'Yeah, go for it,' but now we are sort of committed, like happily committed, to season 2 of 'Welcome to Derry.' And there’s other movie projects going around. But we’re going to do it."

What’s Actually in This Supercut?

This isn’t just chopping the credits and stringing both movies together. Muschietti wants to add a bunch of deleted material, plus some scenes that have never even been filmed before. He’s teased that some of these new bits come straight from Stephen King’s novel, while others are entirely new. Basically, more Derry, more Pennywise, more floating. He’s intentionally cagey about exactly what those new scenes are, but whatever the plan, the whole thing would reportedly push up to six and a half hours. Just to be clear: that’s as long as 'The Godfather' trilogy if you cut out lunch.

The Current Status (aka Still Waiting)

So, is it actually happening? Apparently, yes—but not soon. The Muschiettis are soundly locked into making Season 2 of 'Welcome to Derry' right now, and there are some other projects in the works too. The studio apparently isn’t opposed, but until the Muschiettis clear some space in their calendar, this ultra-cut is basically in the “cool idea, not a priority” bucket.
  • Muschietti wants to make a 6+ hour 'It' supercut: combining both movies, adding deleted and brand-new scenes
  • He’s planned this since at least 2017, but life and other projects (like 'The Flash' and 'Welcome to Derry') keep delaying it
  • Currently most of the Muschietti energy is going into 'Welcome to Derry' Season 2
  • He says he’s definitely going to do it—eventually
  • No word on when, and some scenes still need to be shot
So if you were hoping to spend a full day in the sewers with the Losers Club (and probably take a few snack breaks), keep waiting—maybe stock up on popcorn. In the meantime, we’ll see what kind of upside-down Pennywise stuff 'Welcome to Derry' serves up first.
