Sony Pictures has finally pencilled in when 24 Jump Street will hit cinemas, with Oscar-winner Rodney Rothman steering the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill sequel.

Right, time for an update on the Jump Street saga—Sony's dusted off its release slate and actually pinned down a date for the next chapter. 24 Jump Street (yes, they've skipped a number on purpose and no, the joke isn't lost on anyone) now has an official date with cinemas: 10 December 2027. It's a long stretch since the last outing, but the core duo are back, and it seems the wait might almost be over for fans who never quite believed another sequel would see the light of day.

24 Jump Street lands in cinemas on 10 December 2027, thirteen years on from 22 Jump Street.

Who’s Making This One?

The big news on the creative front: Rodney Rothman, who co-wrote 22 Jump Street, shifts into the director's chair for the new sequel. He's not flying solo here either—Rothman has co-written the script with none other than Jonah Hill (once again wearing his 'why not?' screenwriting hat) and Meghan Malloy. If you're hoping for any wild shake-up on the producer side, you’ll be disappointed—Phil Lord and Chris Miller are sticking with producing duties rather than returning behind the camera, joined by Neal H. Moritz, Tatum himself and Hill, so there’s plenty of continuity in the mix.

The Boys Are Back (and So's Captain Dickson)

Now, for the reunion everyone’s been on about. In what counts as genuinely good news for a franchise built on extremely daft chemistry, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube are all confirmed to return. Gone are the days of ‘in talks’ and contract wrangling; Discussing Film reckons all three have signed back on as the undercover ‘cops’ and their eternally exasperated boss. If you’ve somehow managed to forget: Tatum and Hill play Jenko and Schmidt, two bumbling officers with questionable undercover credentials, while Ice Cube is the always-shouting Captain Dickson.

  • Jonah Hill as Schmidt
  • Ice Cube as Captain Dickson

Plot details? There aren’t any yet. Sony’s keeping absolutely silent on what impossible age group the pair will be infiltrating this time—though anyone who’s seen the jokey parade of made-up sequels in 22 Jump Street's end credits will have their own bets. Speaking of that running gag, the script’s apparently continuing it with the brilliant bit of lampshading: according to producer Neal H. Moritz, the cover page itself reads, ‘It took so long we had to skip one’, just in case anyone expected them to approach this seriously.

There’s no word yet on additional cast beyond the original trio, and Sony’s still hiding any specific plot notes for now. With a comedic pedigree like this, chances are they’ll lean right back into the R-rated shenanigans.
