Rumour has it Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot might finally give fans the team they’ve been asking for — and keep a key element from the original X-Men.

If you've spent the past few years moaning that the X-Men movies never did quite get the team together “properly”, there's a new rumour making the rounds that might be up your street. Marvel Studios are apparently eyeing a line-up that brings back several big names from the early comics who, for reasons best known to Fox, haven't all been on screen at once. As with anything MCU-related these days, take all of this with a shovel of salt until the studio confirm anything at all.

Rogue is reportedly one of Xavier's students and not, for once, one of the main X-Men team – but still “an important role in the movie, the team, and the story,” according to James Mack, the scooper who's got Marvel fans buzzing this week.

The Alleged X-Men Line-Up

The core team on the rumour mill: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Rogue, Angel, and Iceman. Notably, Rogue’s not actually in the squad this time (at least when things kick off), but she does orbit the main plot as a student at Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. If you’re getting déjà vu, that’s because it sounds suspiciously like her position in Bryan Singer’s 2000 film—central to the story, not a front-line fighter, possibly dragged into Magneto’s schemes.

  • Cyclops: Kit Connor
  • Jean Grey: Sadie Sink (spotted first in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”)
  • Beast: Rumoured
  • Rogue: Role not officially cast, but central to the plot
  • Angel: Unconfirmed casting
  • Iceman: No word on casting

No mention of Wolverine for once—probably wise, since the bloke needs a rest. Instead, the focus looks like it’ll be on reuniting these six, a move that seriously leans into fan nostalgia (and, frankly, makes more sense than the hodgepodge rosters we’ve seen before).

X-Men doesn't have a confirmed release date, but filming is expected to start in 2027.

Who’s In and Who’s Rumoured?

On the record, Marvel have three key players locked in: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost (so White Queen fans can take a breath), and Kit Connor as the new Cyclops. The rest is whispers—there may be appearances from Beast, Xavier, Magneto, and even X-23, if you believe the usual “sources close to production” tripe. Nothing about Angel, Iceman, or Rogue’s actor, if she’s been cast at all.

Interesting footnote: Marvel’s already seeded the whole “mutants in the MCU” concept, with Kamala Khan officially confirmed as a mutant and Namor popping up in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” This new X-Men is meant to properly kick off the much-hyped “Mutant Saga” in the MCU.

Don’t expect to see any X-Men branding before Avengers: Secret Wars lands in 2027. Filming is scheduled for next year, and most online reckon we’ll get the full cast list at D23 (assuming Marvel even want to tell us this year).
