Why did Amy Huberman leave Harry Wild? Orla stayed in the show — the actress didn't
Viewers who pressed play on Harry Wild series 4 in May 2025 got a surprise in the first family scene: Orla Wild was there, doing Orla things, played by a completely different person. Amy Huberman was gone. Nobody said why.
So what happened?
Huberman played Orla Wild — daughter-in-law to Jane Seymour's Harry, married to Kevin Ryan's Charlie — for the first three series, from the show's debut on 3 April 2022. She did not return for series 4, which premiered on 5 May 2025, and the role was recast with Irish actress and stage performer Aoife Mulholland. Neither Huberman nor Acorn TV has ever given a public reason.
What we actually know
Precious little, which is unusual. Departures on a show this popular normally come with a statement, an Instagram post, or at minimum a line from a producer. This one came with silence from every direction — no exit interview, no farewell, no on-screen acknowledgement. Orla simply carried on with a new face.
What's clear is that the character wasn't written out. Mulholland's Orla is the same person in the same marriage in the same house.
Who is Aoife Mulholland?
An Irish actress with a heavy theatre background. She made her television debut in Foreign Exchange in 2004 and appeared on BBC's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, but her stage CV is the substantial one — Chicago, Legally Blonde, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, and Chess in Concert. Screen credits include Malicious Intent.
She's now played Orla across two series, having returned for series 5.
The recast that didn't dent the ratings
If Acorn TV worried about the switch, the numbers didn't reflect it. The streamer announced at the 2025 ATX Television Festival that series 4 had landed among its most-watched seasons ever:
The season ranks among "Acorn TV's Top 10 most watched seasons of all time", the company said in its renewal announcement on 31 May 2025.
Viewership was up by double digits on the previous series.
What happened next
The show hasn't slowed down. A feature-length special aired on 24 November 2025, wrapping up series 4 with a poisoning at Vicky and Cormac's wedding. Series 5 followed on 22 June 2026 — six episodes, running weekly to 27 July 2026 — with Joe Lando joining as new State Pathologist Pierce Kennedy, reuniting him with his Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman co-star Seymour after 28 years.
