Who wins in The Hawk? Netflix put father and son into the same U.S. Open
All 10 episodes of The Hawk arrived on Netflix at once on 16 July 2026, and every one of them points at the same event: a U.S. Open playoff with Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins one major short of the career Grand Slam.
He doesn't get it. His son Lance wins the U.S. Open after Lonnie misses a short putt on the 18th, with Golden Fisk eliminated earlier — which leaves the championship as a straight father-and-son contest.
Who's in the playoff
- Lonnie Hawkins (Will Ferrell) — the world number one from 2004, back on tour two decades after the collapse that ended him.
- Lance Hawkins (Jimmy Tatro) — his son, and golf's current golden boy.
- Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson) — Lonnie's long-standing rival, out before the finish.
The lie that decides it
Lance tells his mother Stacy (Molly Shannon) that he owes $4 million to a Las Vegas betting ring and will be killed on the spot if he doesn't win. Stacy passes it to Lonnie. On the course, Lonnie clocks two menacing faces in the gallery. He digs himself out of the rough on 18, stands over a putt that would complete the Grand Slam, and misses — and Lance sinks the winner using his father's childhood club.
Afterwards, Lance admits there was no debt and no betting ring. A mind game he picked up from Lonnie.
Did Lonnie miss on purpose?
He says he did. His caddie Sam (Fortune Feimster) asks him outright in the closing scene, and Lonnie offers her a pickle instead of an answer. Ferrell, who created the series, gave Tudum a straighter version in July 2026:
"I think he had every intention to [miss it], and then he really was trying to make it."
Ferrell said he added the "I missed on purpose" line to cover Lonnie's shame at choking a second time. Shannon, sitting beside him, said she hadn't known that either.
What happens after the putt
Lonnie survives an assassination attempt by his rival Anton (Chris Parnell), courtesy of Sam catching a javelin. He gets his gangrenous pickle-jar hand seen to. He's asked to captain next year's Ryder Cup team, and drives off on a cross-country road trip with Lance.
For the record: Netflix had announced no second season as of late August 2026, and Lonnie's Grand Slam is still one major short.
