Where is Courtney Mitchell in EastEnders now?
Three different actresses, one of the most famous soap deaths in British TV history in her backstory, and a bloodline running straight through the Mitchell family — yet Courtney Mitchell hasn't set foot in Albert Square in nearly a decade.
If you're wondering where Grant's daughter ended up, here's the full picture.
The short answer
Canonically, Courtney lives in Portugal with her dad, Grant Mitchell. Her last on-screen appearance was 9 September 2016, when she left Walford with him — and she hasn't been seen since.
Who Courtney is
Courtney was born on screen on 11 March 1997, prematurely and by caesarean, to Tiffany (Martine McCutcheon). Her paternity was a classic Walford cliffhanger — Grant Mitchell or Tony Hills? — until a DNA test confirmed Grant (Ross Kemp) as her father. Then came the tragedy that defined her childhood: on New Year's Eve 1998, Tiffany was run over and killed by Frank Butcher's car while chasing Grant, who had snatched baby Courtney.
Grant took Courtney to Rio de Janeiro in October 1999, where she gained a stepmother, Carla, whom she never warmed to. Father and daughter returned briefly in 2006, Grant's marriage collapsed, and the pair moved on to Portugal.
The 2016 visit
Courtney's last stint came during Grant's 2016 return, in the aftermath of Peggy Mitchell's death. It packed a lot into a few months: she developed a crush on Mark Fowler Jr at Shakil's party — before discovering he was her half-brother, Grant's secret son with Michelle Fowler — and she and Louise Mitchell witnessed the break-in in which Ben and Jay were kidnapped, with Courtney phoning Grant for help mid-struggle. On 9 September 2016, she departed for Portugal with her dad.
The three faces of Courtney
- Carissa and Josephine O'Meara (1997–1999) — twins who shared the role in Courtney's baby years.
- Megan Jossa (2006) — played the mischievous child version; she's the cousin of Jacqueline Jossa, EastEnders' own Lauren Branning.
- Alice Nokes (2016) — the teenage Courtney, who went on to Game of Thrones, Ted Lasso, Anne Boleyn in The Spanish Princess, and a lead role in Wreck.
Could she come back?
The pieces are certainly on the board. Grant himself returned to the show for a 2025–2026 stint, bowing out again on 26 May 2026, and Mark Fowler Jr is back in Walford in 2026 too — recast as Stephen Aaron-Sipple after Ned Porteous decamped to Emmerdale. With her father and half-brother both back in the story, Courtney remains one of the last dangling Mitchell threads.
As of August 2026, though, no return has been announced. Somewhere in the Algarve, Courtney Mitchell is presumably enjoying the one thing no resident of Albert Square ever gets: a quiet life.
