When will The Night Manager continue? Hiddleston has already let a few details slip
The Night Manager took nearly a decade between series — the original ran on BBC One in February 2016, and series 2 didn't arrive until 1 January 2026 (11 January on Prime Video in the US), wrapping its six episodes on 1 February. So the obvious worry: is another ten-year wait coming?
Not this time. And Tom Hiddleston has been unusually chatty about what's next.
Is series 3 definitely happening?
Yes — and it has been for a while. The BBC and Prime Video greenlit series 2 and series 3 together back in April 2024, so the renewal was locked in before a single new episode aired. Hiddleston confirmed it publicly, revealing the new run was designed as one long arc from the start:
"We always constructed this one at the beginning of a twelve-episode story," Hiddleston said on This Morning in January 2026.
In other words: series 2's six episodes are the first half, and series 3's are the second. He also joked that fans wouldn't be waiting another decade — he'd be 55 by then.
What Hiddleston has let slip
Speaking to TV Insider in January 2026, he confirmed the writers already know exactly where Jonathan Pine's story finishes — "I won't reveal it now because that would take away the lovely surprise" — and gave a status update:
- Development — series 3 is in official development, actively being written.
- Not yet in pre-production — the team is still refining the story and structure.
- A planned ending — the two new series were mapped as a single two-volume story, so series 3 will be the conclusion.
When could it actually air?
No date has been announced as of July 2026. Series 2 finished filming roughly a year before its January 2026 debut, so if pre-production begins later in 2026, the realistic window is late 2027 into 2028. A 2027 premiere is the optimistic estimate; another January launch would fit the pattern.
Where the story left off
Series 2 ended with Pine bleeding out in the Colombian jungle — hardly a state the show would kill its leading man in, but a deliberately brutal cliffhanger. The finale's closing minutes strongly signalled returns for Hugh Laurie's Richard Roper and Noah Jupe's character, while series 2 additions Camila Morrone and Diego Calva remain unconfirmed.
