What happens at the end of Hazbin Hotel season 2? The final phone call, explained
Hazbin Hotel spent eight episodes building towards all-out war between Heaven and Hell — then ended its second season on something far quieter. A phone, buzzing.
The finale, "Curtain Call", landed on Prime Video on 19 November 2025, and its last shot finally answers the question Charlie has been asking since season 1: the caller is her mother, Lilith.
How the war ends first
Vox's plan comes to a head: a doomsday cannon powered by a kidnapped Lucifer, fired at Heaven's defences while the media overlord throws himself a victory gala. Charlie's counter-plan is a heist — sneak into VoxTek, hijack the broadcast signal, and put Sir Pentious, Hell's first redeemed soul, on every screen in the Pride Ring.
"Sir Pentious was the one who proved that redemption is possible," Charlie declares when she seizes the stage.
But it's Alastor who actually wins it, with wordplay.
He calls in the favour Charlie has owed him since season 1 and makes her tell Vox he's the strongest sinner in Hell. A gloating Vox puts his hands on her shoulders — breaking his own deal with Alastor never to touch Charlie — and the Radio Demon gets his full power back, free of Rosie's contract into the bargain.
Alastor thrashes Vox across Pentagram City, the overlords and even the Vees pile in to contain the overloading weapon, and Heaven stands down. War cancelled.
The final phone call, explained
Every call Charlie has made to Lilith — across two whole seasons — has gone to voicemail. In the closing scene she leaves one last message: the war is off, the hotel is thriving, and she wishes her mum could see it. She hangs up, makes her peace with the silence, and turns to leave.
Then the phone rings. It's Lilith. Charlie answers — and the season ends.
The timing is the point. Lilith spent seven years in Heaven, tangled up in the deal revealed in season 1, and her silence has hung over everything her daughter built. She only calls back once Charlie has stopped a war without her. Whatever she wants, it's the engine of season 3.
The other loose ends
- Angel Dust — revealed as Vox's hypnotised, unwitting spy, he leaves the hotel out of guilt rather than risk his friends again.
- Alastor — free at last and at full power; the last we see of him, he's eyeing Lucifer.
- Vox — survives, humiliated, and gets dumped back in his tower by Valentino.
- The hotel — busier than ever, with sinners queueing up who genuinely want redemption.
At 36 minutes, "Curtain Call" is the longest episode in the series, carried by a single song — "Hear My Hope", also its longest. Seasons 3 and 4 are already greenlit. Hell's phone lines are finally open; now Charlie has to find out what her mother wants.
