What happens at the end of Alice and Steve? That rooftop cliffhanger, explained
Alice and Steve dropped all six episodes on Hulu and Disney+ on 8 June 2026, and the finale leaves things wide open.
If you've just watched episode 6 and are wondering whether that ending means what you think it means — yes, it really does just cut to black mid-jump.
The short version
A fire breaks out at the wedding rehearsal manor. Steve is trapped inside. Alice, despite everything that's happened between them, runs back in to save him. They end up on the roof with no way down, and leap off together. The screen cuts before we see them land. That's how the season ends.
How it builds to that point
The six-part series, created by Sophie Goodhart, follows Alice (Nicola Walker) and Steve (Jemaine Clement) — best friends in their fifties whose relationship implodes when Steve starts dating Alice's 26-year-old daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith).
Over the course of the season, Alice tries everything to break them up. She briefly succeeds — convincing Steve to end things — but when he discovers Alice sabotaged his career in the process, he gets back together with Izzy out of defiance as much as affection. By the finale, Steve and Izzy are engaged and moving at breakneck speed. Izzy, it turns out, is pregnant — though not with Steve's child, but with her ex Janis's.
The finale is set at a country manor during the wedding rehearsal weekend. Tensions are volcanic. Alice confronts Izzy about the age gap, the dinner descends into chaos, and Alice's already fragile marriage to Daniel (Joel Fry) takes further damage.
The fire and the jump
A fire breaks out at the manor. As everyone evacuates, Steve is left behind. Alice — the woman who has spent the entire series trying to destroy his relationship — goes back inside for him. They make it to the roof but find no safe escape route. Alice tells Steve she can't lose both her daughter and her best friend at the same time. They jump.
The episode ends on that image: two people mid-air, fate unknown. No resolution, no hospital scene, no confirmation of survival.
Will there be a season 2?
Alice and Steve was billed as a limited series, but the cliffhanger ending strongly suggests more is planned. None of the major storylines — Alice's marriage, Izzy's pregnancy, Steve and Izzy's future — are resolved. If the show performs well (it already won Best Series at Canneseries 2026), a second season seems likely.
