Walton Goggins has joined Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Miami Vice ’85, reportedly as a henchman to John Leguizamo’s cartel boss.

Looks like Miami Vice is on its way back, and this time, they’re going all-in with Miami Vice '85 – a reboot that’s got its sights firmly set on the neon, cocaine-fuelled heyday of the original series.

The big news: Walton Goggins has signed on for the show. If the name’s ringing a bell, it should – he’s been in everything from Justified to The Hateful Eight, usually playing someone you absolutely shouldn’t trust. Oddly enough, the producers haven’t nailed down his official role yet, but word going around (from sources not on the record, mind) is that Goggins will be on the wrong side of the law, starring as one of the top henchmen under John Leguizamo‘s cartel boss.

Walton Goggins joins Miami Vice '85, with buzz suggesting he’ll play henchman to John Leguizamo’s drug lord.

The original Miami Vice ran on NBC from 1984 to 1990, and it pretty much set the standard for what a pastel-coloured, synth-soaked cop drama should look like. Now, the reboot’s leaning hard into that same ‘80s vibe, probably in the hope of cornering both the nostalgia crowd and newcomers who only know Miami through GTA. No word yet on who else is coming aboard, or when we’ll actually see this thing – but given the casting so far, they’re clearly aiming to keep things interesting.
