Vin Diesel kicks off Fast Forever with a tease — the Fast & Furious finale is officially underway
Vin Diesel has revved up Fast & Furious 11 with a cheeky social tease and an update fans love — but the ‘casting’ twist isn’t what you think.
The saga that simply refuses to run out of petrol is revving its engines again. Fast & Furious 11 — now officially carrying the title Fast Forever — has just had its latest update, straight from Vin Diesel himself. Yes, we’re doing this one more time, and apparently with as much drama as you’d expect from a series that’s spent two decades jumping cars between skyscrapers and pretending it’s all about ‘family’.
Fast Forever lands in cinemas on 17 March 2028.
Moving Parts
First up, Vin Diesel (now 59, and somehow still hungry for more high-octane chaos) dropped a post on social media to tell fans that pre-production is underway. In typically Diesel fashion, he paired his news with a photo and the comment: ‘Pre-production… the casting of cars is always the fun part. Haha.’ Very on-brand, if you ask me.
They’re currently sorting the essential Fast & Furious component – ridiculous cars. Meanwhile, the script comes from Michael Lesslie (you might know him for Assassin’s Creed and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), and Louis Leterrier (back again after steering Fast X) will direct. The production team is stuffed with the usual suspects: Neal H. Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Samantha Vincent, plus both Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson — no drama about The Rock’s return this time, at least on paper.
Where the Road Ends
Fast Forever is being billed as the ‘final’ mainline entry for the franchise (though if you believe Hollywood endings, you’ve not been paying attention), but they’re already teeing up spin-offs in the style of Hobbs & Shaw. Not only that, but there’s a television series in the pipeline as well, with franchise regular Jordana Brewster voicing her enthusiasm for a small-screen future. She wants a Fast & Furious TV universe to rival Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone empire – bold.
- Fast Forever is the 11th (and supposedly final) mainline Fast film
- Directed by Louis Leterrier, written by Michael Lesslie
- Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Neal H. Moritz among producers
- Spin-offs and a TV show already in development
- Races into cinemas 17 March 2028
Script Tears (and Not Everyone’s Seen It)
Now for the more curious bit: Diesel let slip (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the script took four years and multiple writers to get right, describing an unexpectedly emotional reaction when he finally read Lesslie’s draft. Here’s his take:
According to Diesel, 'We went to four different writers, four years in development, and after I read the script, halfway through, one tear. By the end of the script that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying. And I couldn’t hold it back.'
On the other hand, in a somewhat bizarre twist, director Leterrier has apparently not even read the latest version of the script — that’s the word from Polygon. Not exactly the most confidence-inspiring situation when you think about it, but this is Fast & Furious we’re talking about – logic is optional.
Pre-production’s underway now, and Diesel’s said he hopes to start shooting before 2027 is out. Given the enthusiasm, tears, and general stubbornness behind this franchise, don’t bet against them hitting that target.
