Two Reality TV Wildcards Check Into The White Lotus Season 4
Survivor 50’s live finale saved its biggest twist for off the island: The White Lotus creator Mike White is bringing two of his fellow castaways into Season 4 of the Emmy-winning HBO hit.
So, here’s a bit of a curveball from the world of prestige telly and reality competition: Mike White – yes, the brain behind The White Lotus and that surprisingly savvy former Survivor player – has gone and roped in two of his Survivor 50 mates for the upcoming fourth series of HBO’s sun-drenched dark comedy. This came out during the live finale, and frankly, nobody was expecting the real fireworks to happen off the beach.
Chat From France, Surprise Castings, and a Bit of Reality TV Crossover
Here’s how it shook out: While dialling in live from somewhere charming in France (because The White Lotus is filming in Saint-Tropez these days, as you do), White let slip that fellow contestants Charlie Davis and Kamilla Karthigesu will be popping up in series four. If you’re keeping score, that means the bloke really can’t leave his Survivor pals behind.
"Everybody's invited, but there are gonna be two contestants that we're flying out to be in the show, and they are Charlie and Kamilla," White revealed on-air.
For context: Mike White’s love for slipping Survivor alums into his projects is basically tradition now. He first hit our screens as a contestant on series 37 (that’s David vs. Goliath, back in 2018 if you weren’t glued to it), and ever since, bits of his reality TV past keep filtering into The White Lotus.
- Series 1: Alec Merlino (bartender, recurring role)
- Series 2: Angelina Keeley and Kara Kay (hotel guests with perfect ‘should-I-know-them?’ energy)
- Series 3: Natalie Cole and Carl Boudreaux (blink and you’ll miss them, but yes, they’re in there)
As for these two new arrivals: Charlie Davis finished runner-up on Survivor 46 earlier this year, and Kamilla Karthigesu came fourth on Survivor 48. Not exactly household names in the UK, but clearly White’s a fan of their TV presence.
Stacked Cast, Fancy Location, and More Than a Hint of Comedy
Davis and Karthigesu aren’t exactly slumming it. They’ll join a frankly ridiculous line-up: Laura Dern (surely overdue for a lounge by the pool), Ben Kingsley, Kumail Nanjiani, Rosie Perez, Steve Coogan, Sandra Bernhard – plus Max Minghella, Max Greenfield, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, and Heather Graham. Good luck remembering all those names by the first episode.
The new series is being shot at the swanky Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez. There’s also a suggestion the Cannes Film Festival is involved somehow, so expect some very self-aware satire about the film industry and a few too many glasses of rosé.
Not to skip the rest of what White’s juggling: he only delayed the latest batch of The White Lotus scripts to go play Survivor again for its 50th season milestone. After he was the fourth boot (unlucky, mate), he hot-footed it straight back to France and resumed work. Commitment, if nothing else.
On what to expect, executive producer David Bernad has described this series as ‘the personal and the funniest’, which bodes well if you fancy more dark fun mixed with gallery-ready locations and the occasional reality TV face popping up in swimwear.
