Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen loses one of its main stars ahead of season 3
The crime show is shaking up its cast next season — and the line-up you know won’t look the same.
Well, here we are again with a Guy Ritchie project changing things up—never a dull moment, is there? Ritchie, if you somehow don’t know, made his name way back with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and’s been at it ever since, dabbling in everything from crime capers to adventure blockbusters to, for reasons only he knows, war films. And now, besides all that, he’s doubling down on telly—he’s behind Young Sherlock for Prime Video, and of course, The Gentlemen for Netflix, where he’s not just steering the ship as executive producer, but directing a few episodes himself.
Anyway, to the bit that’s actually news: there’s a shake-up coming for The Gentlemen series. Daniel Ings, who’s been playing Freddy Horniman, has put it on record that he won’t be back for Season 3. This came out in an interview he gave to HATC Magazine. Ings himself reckons the character’s arc reached a natural stopping point in the latest run of episodes—he was basically satisfied with where things landed for Freddy, so that’s that.
Daniel Ings told HATC Magazine that he will not reprise Freddy Horniman in The Gentlemen’s next season, as he feels the storyline has reached its logical end for his character.
Worth noting, Ritchie’s got his hands full juggling his various TV and film ambitions at the moment, so don’t expect him to slow down any time soon. That’s all that’s breaking for now: Ings is out for Season 3, Freddy Horniman’s story is done, and the rest is still unfolding.
