Tom Cruise just saw Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and jumped on social media to rave about the director’s latest epic.

Right, so you know things are getting lively at the box office when Tom Cruise turns up brandishing an IMAX ticket. That's exactly what happened with Christopher Nolan's latest, The Odyssey. Not just a quick thumbs up either – Cruise was so impressed he had to tell the world (or at least his followers) about it.

Tom Cruise: Still the Biggest Cinema Cheerleader

Cruise proper loves a spectacle, especially if it involves giant screens and a bit of British ingenuity behind the camera. He's been banging on about seeing films in cinemas for years now, and he's walked the walk too. When the studios came sniffing to stream Top Gun: Maverick during the whole Covid debacle, he flat out refused. Bit risky at the time, but that stubborn streak ended up bagging over $1.5 billion once cinemas got back in gear.

Anyway, Cruise has a history of piling up praise for Nolan. He did it previously for Tenet (remember that mind-bender?), and now he's back at it for The Odyssey, turning up in person with a cinema stub in hand. He put a snap of himself outside the IMAX 70mm sign up on social media, and here's what he had to say:

"Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can't wait to see it again!"

All Eyes on Nolan's Epic

So, what are we actually looking at with The Odyssey? Nolan's finally tackled the Homeric legend, and he's gone all-in with new IMAX tech – hardly surprising from the bloke who keeps pushing cinema standards up a notch. He's made no secret of wanting this one watched on the biggest screen going, so don't bother waiting for it on your telly.

  • Latest reviews: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 229 critics weighing in already
  • Comparisons: Critics are drawing lines between The Odyssey and Nolan's own Oppenheimer, which, frankly, is not a comparison I ever expected to hear
  • Industry buzz: Jonathan Sim from ComingSoon reckons it's "an extraordinary achievement that deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible"
  • General release: UK cinemas get it from 17th July 2026

What's Next for Cruise?

Cruise is never far from the next big thing. After wrapping Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (pulled in $598 million globally), he's shifted gears entirely. He's turning up next in Digger, which is apparently a disaster-comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Honestly, if you'd picked that genre-combo for Cruise after all these years, I'd have called you daft, but here we are.
