Disney reportedly lines up its next live-action remake — a beloved animated classic
Oscar nominee Colman Domingo is set to help write a new live-action Disney project centred on Tiana, the much-loved heroine from The Princess and the Frog.
Details remain scarce, but what's clear is that this won't be a straight remake of the 2009 animated film. Instead, the focus will turn to fresh stories for Princess Tiana herself.
Domingo is teaming up with Robert O’Hara, best known for his Tony-nominated work on Slave Play, to develop the script. The project remains untitled and, so far, specifics about casting or when filming might begin are under wraps.
This marks the first live-action project built around Princess Tiana, Disney's first Black princess.
The original Princess and the Frog was notable for being the last Walt Disney Animation Studios film crafted in classic hand-drawn animation before the studio fully moved into 3D CGI. The film and its characters, in particular Tiana, have become fan favourites over the years, making the announcement of new material significant for both nostalgic viewers and a new generation alike.
