One of Tom Cruise’s biggest hits is getting a massive legacy sequel — and it’s bringing an Oscar-winning co-star along for the ride.

Well, it looks like Tom Cruise is finally making good on all that talk about sequels, with Days of Thunder 2 now officially on the horizon. Cruise has fired up his social media with the very first poster for the film, nailing down a proper cinema release on 2 June 2028. About time, honestly—his schedule’s packed tighter than a Le Mans pit stop these days.

Days of Thunder 2 lands in cinemas 2 June 2028.

Back on the track

The new poster hits you with proper nostalgia. It’s Cruise front and centre, shoulder to shoulder with Anne Hathaway—the latest big name to join the cast, though mystery still hangs over exactly who she’s playing. They’re both planted right in the middle of a racetrack, next to a garish green-and-yellow racing car. The design plays up those old-school 1990s colours from the original film, just enough for a bit of déjà vu. Top marks for detail: where the original 'Thunder' had its punchy lettering, now the ‘R’ at the end is swapped for a ‘2’. Not subtle, but you get the idea.

Hathaway joins the fray

To add a bit more personality, Cruise didn’t just post the image—he also shared a behind-the-scenes video. In it, he and Hathaway are goofing around on set, lining up for the official shoot, swapping a few jokes about Hathaway's timing—she’s set to start filming once she’s had her third child. No hints yet on what her character is actually doing in this high-octane world.

So, green-and-yellow paint jobs and all, that’s Cruise officially pulling Days of Thunder back onto the starting grid—this time with a fresh co-star for company.
