Let's address the latest rumblings surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, because the internet's gone into one of its regular MCU-induced frenzies, and frankly, the supposed link between Tony Stark and Doctor Doom is at the heart of the drama. Here's what's worth knowing – and more importantly, what probably isn't.

The gist? Fans have spent months, maybe years, speculating that there'd be some earth-shattering reason why Robert Downey Jr. has ended up playing both Iron Man and Doctor Doom in this upcoming Russo brothers event movie. Maybe they're multiversal twins, a weird alternate identity, or two halves of some cosmic coin. Naw, apparently not.

The ‘scooper’ with a fairly solid track record, James Mack, took to social media to pretty much crush the hopes of anyone expecting a profound connection between Tony Stark and Victor von Doom. Here’s his blunt verdict:

Tony and Doom have no connection or specific reason for having the same face. Get that out of your heads.

So, in other words: they’re not long-lost relatives, not crafty doppelgangers, not sharing a soul through the Nexus Whatever. They just happen to be played by the same actor, and that’s as deep as it gets. Until we see something official, it’s best not to pin your Marvel aspirations on this one.

An Avengers film wouldn’t be an Avengers film without a crowd, and this one’s right up there in the cast-size arms race. Chris Evans is back in the spangly suit as Steve Rogers, next to Chris Hemsworth wielding his hammer as Thor, and Florence Pugh jumping in again as Yelena Belova (Black Widow 2.0, really). Not stopping there – Pedro Pascal is popping up as Reed Richards, Paul Rudd continues bugging about as Scott Lang, and you’ll get Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, Letitia Wright (Shuri), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), plus an ensemble so packed you’ll need a seating chart.

Rumours, Leaks and Wild Fan Dreams

You can’t have an MCU film without leaks, and this one is leaking like an old kettle. Recent whispers suggest Loki, still played by Tom Hiddleston, may cheat death (again) in a post-credits scene – after Doctor Doom supposedly kills him. And if that’s not enough crossover chaos, there are rumblings about Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine showing up on Battleworld in a completely separate tag at the end. Wild, but until Marvel say anything, treat these like every other fever dream.
