Millie Bobby Brown ditched social media in 2021 — and hasn’t looked back. In a new chat with Josh Horowitz, the Stranger Things and Enola Holmes 3 star breaks down why she bailed and how she still connects with fans without the apps.

Right, let’s talk about Millie Bobby Brown—who, by the way, is having a serious moment lately (not that she ever properly left). You probably know her best as Eleven in Stranger Things, and more recently as the quick-witted Victorian teen detective in Enola Holmes 3. But this isn’t just about her latest Netflix outing. This is about her decision to give social media the boot and why, after a few years, she has no regrets.

Millie vs. the Internet

During a sit-down with Josh Horowitz—not exactly the softest interviewer—Millie was dead honest about what it’s like growing up with millions of eyes watching your every move online. When Horowitz pointed out how rough social media can be, especially for young women in Hollywood, she barely hesitated. Her response couldn’t be clearer:

'It’s hell.'

No diplomatic waffle, just straight from the source. She went on to spell out exactly what pushed her over the edge.

Drawing the Line in 2021

Back in 2021, Millie ditched every one of her social media accounts. Not just a digital detox—a full deletion. She said she gave it a go, tried to keep up with the noise, but the whole circus had become impossible to manage.

Her words: 'I deleted social media in 2021, and I never looked back. I couldn’t do it anymore. Like, I tried, but I have a large digital footprint.'

Apparently, she didn’t want to even attempt juggling the endless comments and trolls. Instead, she hired someone whose entire job is just to handle her online presence—not some mate or her mum, either, but an actual expert.

'I thought, No, there’s no need for this anymore. So I needed to hire someone, for my mental health, to take care of it for me. Somebody who is an expert in social media, who knows what they’re doing.'

How She Keeps in Touch (Sort Of)

If you’ve noticed that her Instagram is still cheerfully active, that’s because a) it’s not technically her at the wheel, and b) she’s not completely absent. She still writes her own captions (it’s not just a ghostwriter’s job), because she wants fans to feel like they’re actually hearing from her rather than from a faceless handler.

She’s just not reading any of the comments anymore, and honestly, who can blame her? In her words:

'I still want to feel connected to my fans. I still want my fans to know it’s my caption. But I don’t want to see what people have to say about it. Because I don’t care.'

Current Projects & How That’s All Going

  • Stranger Things: Finished its run, freeing up Brown’s schedule (and presumably her sanity)
  • Enola Holmes 3: Hit Netflix on 1 July 2026, with Brown in the lead again
  • Rotten Tomatoes: The third Enola flick’s sitting at 69% from critics, and 66% audience—so, not exactly a stinker, but not setting the world on fire either

Millie’s recent comments are pretty on-brand for the batch of young actors trying to make a living in showbiz while dodging the worst excesses of online celebrity. She hasn’t checked her notifications in years. From her point of view, the less digital noise, the better.
