The Pitt season 3: everything confirmed so far, from the timeline shift to who's not coming back
HBO Max renewed The Pitt for season 3 on 7 January 2026 — the day before season 2 even premiered — and cameras have been rolling in Los Angeles since June. Here's everything actually confirmed, as of 2026.
When it arrives
Fifteen episodes are planned, and executive producer John Wells has said the aim is to be back on air the same week in January. With season 1 landing on 9 January 2025 and season 2 on 8 January 2026, that points to a premiere around Thursday 7 January 2027 — though HBO Max hasn't locked an official date yet.
The timeline shift
Season 2 played out over the Fourth of July weekend, ten months after season 1's shift. Season 3 tightens the gap dramatically: it picks up just four months later, on 12 November 2026, right before the holidays. Noah Wyle confirmed the setting to Deadline in May 2026:
"It's set in early November, just before the holidays."
The practical upside is weather. A Pittsburgh emergency department in November means cold, snow, and black ice — a whole new category of cases the summer-set seasons couldn't touch.
Who's not coming back
Supriya Ganesh won't return as Dr Samira Mohan, in what's been described as a story-driven decision. Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told TVLine it's the natural churn of a teaching hospital — Mohan is still completing her residency in-universe, she just won't be working this particular shift. It follows Tracy Ifeachor's exit as Dr Collins after season 1. The futures of season 2's medical students Joy Kwon and James Ogilvie are also unclear; Gemmill has hinted they may appear only briefly.
Who is — and who's new
- Noah Wyle's Dr Robby — back from his sabbatical, with Gemmill teasing that his mental health hasn't hit rock bottom yet.
- The core roster — Langdon, Santos, King, Whitaker, McKay, Abbot, charge nurse Dana, and Dr Al-Hashimi all return, while Dr Javadi shifts towards psychiatric work.
- A promotion — Ayesha Harris's night-shift Dr Ellis, glimpsed at the end of both previous seasons, becomes a series regular.
- Six new recurring faces — announced on 30 June 2026, including Pruitt Taylor Vince as a patient and Rosanny Zayas as physician assistant Vera Delgado.
Wyle has framed the whole show to Deadline as a five-to-six-year journey taking Robby from brokenness back to health — which suggests the November shift is another rough stop on a long road.
