The Gilded Age season 4 reveals its return window
HBO has circled fall for The Gilded Age Season 4.
If you happen to enjoy a bit of high society scandal with your period drama, some fresh news has just dropped from the grand manors of Manhattan: 'The Gilded Age' is officially returning to HBO Max for a fourth season, and we now have a solid idea of when it's landing… sort of.
Season 4: Autumn Arrival and Tease
HBO Max took to X (yes, that's what we're calling Twitter these days) to share that Season 4 of 'The Gilded Age' will arrive this autumn. No exact date yet, just a suitably dramatic 'coming this fall.' They also posted a peek behind the scenes with the cast, who look very pleased with themselves as they hint at more lavish backstabbing and social climbing to come.
'Lights. Camera. Drama. The cast of #TheGildedAge is back on set. Season 4 coming this fall.'
Where We Left Off (And Why It Matters)
If you need a refresher, 'The Gilded Age' first hit our screens in 2022. Reception from critics started off reasonably well, with Series 1 scoring 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers and critics seemed even more impressed by the time Series 2 came round in 2023, with a hefty 94%. Series 3, which aired in 2025, pushed things even further – it's currently the show's best-rated outing, nabbing a remarkable 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, expectations for Season 4? Not exactly low at this stage.
Who’s Back, Who’s New
The main cast returns for another round of marble staircases and icy glances:
- Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell (honestly, who else could do it)
- Morgan Spector as George Russell
- Christine Baranski, perpetually withering, as Agnes van Rhijn
- Cynthia Nixon as Ada Brook
- Louisa Jacobson as Marian Brook
- Denée Benton as Peggy Scott
- Taissa Farmiga as Gladys Russell
- Harry Richardson as Larry Russell
- Blake Ritson as Oscar van Rhijn
But that’s not all. There are some new faces for Season 4 — and a couple might raise eyebrows if you remember them from less corseted shows. Elizabeth Marvel (she did solid work in 'House of Cards') is joining as Nurse Virginia Saville. Comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan is turning up, as well as Dallas Roberts (from 'Walk the Line') and Andrew Burnap (soon to be seen in 'Snow White'). No word yet on their exact roles, but apparently they're not just background extras fetching champagne.
Production Notes
Season 4 is currently in production. So, don’t expect this to drop overnight — but by autumn, you’ll be able to swan back into all that old school New York intrigue and upstairs-downstairs manoeuvring. Still no precise premiere date, mind, so keep an eye out for HBO Max's next bit of clock-watching PR.
