No exact date yet, but the countdown can begin: a release window is finally set. Mark your calendars—loosely.

If you watched The Gentlemen (the Netflix series, not the movie) and thought, 'Yeah, I could use more hyper-stylized British crime, but maybe with an even nastier bite,' you might want to clear your calendar for fall 2026. After what feels like ages of silence, we finally have actual news about season 2. Spoiler: it’s not coming soon, but at least Theo James himself says it’s moving forward, and apparently, we should brace for a moodier ride.

Season 2: Wrapped, Edited, and… Sometime in the Fall

Although rumors about a second season were floating as far back as August 2024, the real update just dropped: they’re done filming and are now in the editing room, tweaking what’s next. In Theo James' own words:

'We’ve done it, we’ve wrapped season 2. Doing a cut at the moment. There’s still tweaks to be done but it will be in the fall, coming out.'

Netflix isn’t handing out an exact release date (when do they ever?), but for those who like specificity, “fall” in 2026 technically stretches from September 22 to December 21. Mark your calendars with a pencil.

The Vibe: Less Quippy, More Intense?

If you caught season 1, you’ll recognize Guy Ritchie’s whole playbook at work ― quick-cut crime plotting, London’s seedier spots, and a who’s-who of shady characters double-crossing each other while looking spectacularly cool. Theo James, who leads as Eddie Horniman, hinted pretty bluntly that the show’s signature wit is still around, but don’t expect the same tone as before:

'It’s fun. It’s still funny, but it’s darker. Goes a little wild.'

Frankly, that checks out. James has been hinting at 'bigger and darker' since at least February. He and Ritchie apparently agree: rinse and repeat would get boring, so this season is about cranking up the stakes without just retreading the same ground. For a show that already had murder, shootouts, and plenty of illegal horticulture, “darker” isn’t exactly subtle foreshadowing. If you’re coming for fluffy comfort TV, keep scrolling.

Who’s Back (and Who’s New)

  • Kaya Scodelario slides back in as Susie, still Eddie’s right hand (and probably still more competent than everyone else).
  • Daniel Ings returns as Eddie’s brother Freddy ― a walking disaster with a cocaine habit and a knack for trouble.
  • Giancarlo Esposito (yeah, Gustavo Fring himself) will be back as the American billionaire circling Eddie’s empire.
  • New faces are popping up fast: Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellito, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, and, in a real curveball, Hugh Bonneville. He played the posh lord on Downton Abbey, so seeing him get his hands dirty here should be something.
  • If that’s not enough, British TV host Maya Jama and boxer Chris Eubank Jr are on board. Why not?

One quick reminder: The Gentlemen exists in a sort-of parallel universe to the 2019 Guy Ritchie movie of the same name. It’s not a sequel, but it’s absolutely cut from the same cloth (complete with drugs, guns, and all the snarky crime jargon you can handle). Marijuana is mostly illegal in the UK ― hence, all this is strictly backdoor business. So, Eddie inherited a whole mess from dad, and it’s definitely not just a big house and a fancy title.

So, that’s the latest. Season 2 is in the can, aiming for this fall (whenever in fall Netflix feels like dropping it), with promises of a rougher edge and new chaos. Personally, I’m more interested in how far they’ll push the tone – “darker” from this team could be practically anything. Stay tuned; there’s sure to be more news (and probably some bonkers trailer) long before the actual premiere.
