Warner Bros. has been mucking about with its release calendar again, and, surprise surprise: The Batman Part II has been bumped. Yes, again. That film has had more release dates than a dodgy broadband engineer, and as of now, it's crawling from its most recent October 2027 slot to a new home on 18 February 2028. That’s nearly three years of date-shuffling since its original plan, just in case you’ve lost track.
So, what’s actually going into that abandoned October 2027 window, you ask? It’s J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi/fantasy thing, The Great Beyond, with Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega headlining. If you’re expecting more news on that, good luck—details are almost as thin on the ground as a good DC box office take these days.
Saga of Delays
If there were a Guinness World Record for moving a film release, The Batman Part II would be a shoo-in. Back in the mists of time (well, 2025), it was pencilled in for 3 October. Then it shifted to 2 October 2026, then 1 October 2027, and now here we are—18 February 2028. Four different release dates, none of them sticking. And yes, before you ask, it’s actually filming at the moment (at least, as far as we know—nothing is ever certain with this lot).
Matt Reeves Tries to Throw Us a Bone
On X (well, Twitter, for those not playing the rebranding game), director Matt Reeves attempted to keep fans on side by dropping a cryptic teaser. DC's Situation: Not Exactly Rosy

Both are cornerstone characters, supposed to hold the whole DC structure together. But while Warner Bros. dithers, the mood behind the scenes is, well, less than upbeat.
Add to that the 'Supergirl' disaster—a film that’s so far managed a measly $116 million at the box office, which is too low to recoup its eye-watering $175 million budget. Not to put too fine a point on it, DC’s recent run of luck has been dreadful. And guess what? Their next cinematic outing is Clayface, a somewhat leftfield, lower-budget body horror flick. That one's meant to try a riskier genre-bending approach. If it tanks (and the odds are hardly in its favour given DC’s recent record), the studio then has nothing major coming until Man of Tomorrow in July 2027. It’s a long wait to see if this new strategy pays off, leaving Gunn and the Warner Bros. suits nervously clutching their calendars.
For the moment, Man of Tomorrow and The Batman Part II are still guaranteed for cinema release—you won’t see them quietly dropped. But if you were James Gunn, you’d be biting your nails a bit, especially if Clayface doesn’t deliver a pleasant surprise. No two ways about it, DC is running out of breathing space.
