Still waiting on her Wonder Woman future? Gal Gadot speaks up amid DCU uncertainty
Gal Gadot has dashed hopes of a Wonder Woman return, delivering a disappointing DC Universe update after her last appearance in The Flash.
Some things in Hollywood drag on longer than a summer cold, and the future of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman has turned out to be one of them. After loads of rumours — and a frankly quite messy relaunch of the DC Universe — Gadot has finally addressed her role. Or, as it turns out, the lack thereof going forward.
This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it's going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character. And I'm just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.

Six Films, No More
Just in case you lost count, Gadot first donned the Wonder Woman gear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then followed up with her own solo adventure in 2017, then Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, a cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and last, The Flash. That’s six cinematic turns as Diana Prince — for those wondering, the rather infamous Zack Snyder’s Justice League is usually counted separately, and no, she wasn’t physically there for that odd Peacemaker finale appearance either.

Critics and viewers alike have mostly been on Gadot’s side, which is no small feat given DC’s hit-or-miss streak this past decade. The third Wonder Woman film, at one point a sure thing with Patty Jenkins back at the helm, was scrapped rather quietly when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC’s so-called New Universe.
Who’s Next for Diana?
The real mystery now — besides what day DC will pull itself together — is who steps into the boots. The bookies’ favourite is that Wonder Woman’s next proper outing will happen in Paradise Lost, a Themyscira-set TV series still cooking somewhere in development hell. Beyond that, Ana Nogueira, fresh off scripting 2026’s Supergirl, is already working on DCU’s new Wonder Woman film. For now, there’s no director or release date. Start placing bets for 2028 if you’re feeling optimistic.
