Good and bad news for Spider-Noir Season 2 renewal
Li Jun Li says the cast is still in the dark — and it all hinges on one major factor.
If you’ve been waiting for news on Spider-Noir picking up a second season, well, strap in, because the latest update is equal parts ‘maybe’ and ‘who knows’. It involves vague cast interviews, chatty executive producers, and—perhaps predictably—a whopping great focus on streaming numbers. Welcome to modern TV renewals.
Season 2: Maybe, Possibly, Pending Your Commitment
First up: Li Jun Li, who plays Cat Hardy on Spider-Noir, claims she’s as much in the dark as the rest of us when it comes to a season 2. In a chat to promote the show, Li admitted:
'I honestly don’t know anything about Season 2. I wish I knew. Of course, I love the show so much. I love Cat Hardy so much. I would love for there to be a Season 2, and it really is all dependent on you guys and the viewership.'
Translation: If enough of us tune in to watch detective Spider-Man brood around in monochrome, Amazon might just cough up for more. It’s all on the fans—no pressure.
The Others Chime In (Sort Of)
- Nicolas Cage (who voices Spider-Noir and was basically born for this kind of role) has also played coy. Cage said previously that he isn’t sure if a follow-up season is nailed down—but he reckons that Season 1 works as a standalone anyway, so he’s not fussed if it goes either way. Classic Cage.
- Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the executive producers and Hollywood’s go-to duo for comic book weirdness, have made their feelings more obvious. Lord told The Hollywood Reporter that they’d be happy to make more episodes, and Miller added that passing up on another run would hardly be in their TV producer DNA.
Streaming Stats—And They Matter (A Lot)
While there’s no official green light for more Spider-Noir, the numbers might work in its favour. As of 10 June, the series was ranked #2 on Prime Video worldwide, just behind Off Campus (which, by the way, already has its second season locked in). In the US, it’s the #2 show in both the TV and overall streaming categories—not too shabby for a pulpy noir spinoff.
Who’s Actually Involved?
Just to clear up any confusion on the creative side: Oren Uziel is not only the series’ creator but is also running the show along with Steve Lightfoot. And beyond Cage and Li, you’ve got Lamorne Morris, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson rounding out a pretty eclectic cast. Not a bad lineup by anyone’s standards.
All eight episodes of Spider-Noir’s debut season are already streaming if you fancy catching up—or rewatching until the viewership algorithm is forced into action.
