Spider-Noir got the axe — now four Spider-Man series are in the works
Despite Spider-Noir’s cancellation, Spider-Man’s TV web is still growing — with a fresh slate of series in development.
Well, isn’t this a bit of a web-slinger twist. Prime Video only just axed its big-ticket Spider-Noir series, but now it’s already knee-deep planning not one, but four new Spider-Man-inspired TV shows with Sony. Yes—four. Whether this is stubborn optimism or just corporate momentum, who’s to say? But given the writers they’ve got lined up, it’s clear they aren’t scrimping.

After Spider-Noir: What’s Next?
Just to catch you up, Spider-Noir finally streamed on Prime Video back in May 2026 with Nicolas Cage in the black-and-white Spider suit. Critics ate it up—92% on Rotten Tomatoes if you buy into those numbers—and the fans weren’t far behind at 90%. The thing even became this year’s biggest Emmy magnet for Prime, scoring 11 nominations and pulling down five outright wins. There's not much more you could ask from a comic book spin-off, really.
But despite all that critical love, Spider-Noir was quietly shown the door. Sure, the debut week was massive: 851 million minutes watched in the States alone, hitting number two on Nielsen’s originals chart. Unfortunately, the drop-off after was a bit brutal—faster than even decent performers like Reacher or Ride or Die. Prime’s top 10 churned, the numbers slid, and execs decided people weren’t actually coming back for more. The polish of those early awards and reviews just didn’t tilt the scale against the massive budget, so that was that.

These names aren’t random picks—they’re proper TV heavyweights, which makes the whole 'maybe one, maybe two shows' gambit even stranger. Reporting from The Ankler makes it clear: Sony and Prime Video are currently sifting through these four different superhero scripts but haven’t locked down which will go forward. So at best we’ll see a couple, at worst, it’s yet another wave of development hell for Spidey fans.
Whatever happens, Sony’s clearly not stepping off the gas just because Spider-Noir tripped at the finish line. Superhero TV might be losing a noir, but behind the scenes, the powers that be reckon there’s still plenty more to spin out.
