J.K. Simmons says he won’t appear as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

If you were holding out for a certain Spider-Man staple popping up in the next film, you can officially shelve those hopes. The long-running online whispers about a familiar face making an appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been scotched—by the man himself. Let’s get into what happened, why it matters, and who’s actually showing up this time around.

The Rumour That Wouldn’t Die

First off, there’s been a persistent bit of chatter floating around: J.K. Simmons, who’s been the go-to J. Jonah Jameson since 2002’s Spider-Man, was supposedly set for another MCU cameo. After all, he brought his loud-mouthed newsman act back to brilliant effect in both Far From Home and No Way Home.

But Simmons himself has absolutely poured water over these claims. When asked flat out if he’d be showing up in Brand New Day, Simmons gave a pretty blunt reply:

'Not in it, dude. I don’t know who on the internet decided that that was fact, but I ain’t in it.'

Clear as you like, really. He’s not showing up to bark about Spider-Man this time round.

Jameson: Why Fans Expected Him (Again)

If you’re wondering why people got their hopes up, here’s a quick refresher. Simmons’ Jameson was an absolute highlight of the old Sam Raimi films—the cigar-chomping, headline-hunting boss at the Daily Bugle, forever rubbish about Spider-Man. When Marvel merged him into the Tom Holland timeline thanks to shenanigans involving Peter Parker’s unmasking, it felt like the perfect bit of fan service.

But of course, the end of No Way Home left everyone—Jameson included—completely oblivious to Peter Parker’s true identity. For a lot of fans, that set the stage for Jameson to return still none the wiser, possibly sniffing out Spidey’s trail all over again. Looks like we’re not getting that dance.

Other Possible Reasons: It’s Not Just Scheduling, But That Too

Another wrinkle to consider: Simmons has been busy lining up his next gig, starring in a TV drama called The Westies. That started shooting in July 2025, and with him in the main cast, his schedule was likely rammed. There are more Simmons projects in the pipe for 2026 on top of that, so even if Marvel had wanted him, it could have proven logistically impossible. Not a tidy answer, but there you have it.

So Who Is Actually in Brand New Day?

We do know a bit less about certain roles—Sadie Sink’s character is still under wraps, and there’s barely a whisper about who’s actually the main villain this time.
