The Russo brothers have congratulated the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast and crew after it toppled an Avengers: Endgame domestic record, marking the moment with an Instagram post.

Here we go again: Marvel smashing its own records. This time, it's Spider-Man: Brand New Day tipping the scales, besting none other than Avengers: Endgame — and yes, the Russo brothers have noticed.

Spider-Man Swings Past Endgame

Since landing in cinemas on 31 July, Tom Holland's new Spidey outing has not only joined the billion-dollar club but also managed to shatter domestic box office records. The opening weekend alone brought in just over $360 million in the US, which is about three million ahead of Endgame's already ridiculous debut back in 2019. A new Marvel record, set by another Marvel film — at this point, it's basically sport for them.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day pulled in $360 million in its US opening weekend, topping Endgame's $357.1 million.

For comparison, Endgame had a massive run, earning $357.1 million over its first domestic weekend and eventually piling up more than $858 million stateside (though it was eventually knocked off the global top spot when Avatar had its clever little rerelease in 2022).

The Russos Pass the Torch

The cherry on top: Joe and Anthony Russo, who steered the ship on Endgame, were quick to offer their congratulations. They posted artwork (credit: Bosslogic, if you're into your fan art) of Spider-Man with some rather Infinity Stone-inspired bling and gave a nod to everyone involved on Brand New Day — from director Destin Daniel Cretton and the lovely trio of Tom, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, to producers Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O'Connor.

Here's what the Russo brothers said in their Instagram post, just to make it official:

Huge congratulations to Destin, Tom, Zendaya, Jacob, Jon, Mark, Sadie, Florence, Michael, Marisa, producers Kevin, Amy, Avi, and Rachel, and the entire Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast and crew on making domestic box office opening weekend history. The gauntlet has been passed…

Nice way to be gracious in defeat, though you have to imagine at least one of them is just a bit relieved not to have to keep that particular gauntlet polished anymore.

What's Next?

Marvel loves a rerelease, so Endgame itself will apparently be back in cinemas later this year with some extra scenes shoehorned in, no doubt in the hope of wringing a bit more from the already bursting tills. Meanwhile, the Russos are busy prepping for Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for late 2027, after Avengers: Doomsday lands. If you're asking "will there be a Brand New Day sequel?" — well, don't hold your breath just yet, as neither Marvel nor Sony has made things official.

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also landed a brand new IMAX run just to remind everyone it's still the main event in cinemas.
