Let’s be very clear: only one other film has ever done that – Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in 2015. That one took 50 days. Holland’s new outing gets there in 36. Nothing short of giddy, that pace.
By Thursday, the running total was $899.7 million, and it finished week five with another $30.4 million in the pot. Even on the four-day Labor Day weekend, where numbers normally drop off, it’s still expected to pull in a tidy $18 million. Still playing across more than 3,600 cinemas in week five, which doesn’t happen unless folk keep turning up in droves.
Just How High Can Spidey Swing?
No previous Spider-Man – be it Maguire or Garfield in the tights – ever got near this nine-hundred-million mark stateside. To put it in context, the previous home run holders for Marvel were Endgame ($858.3 million) and No Way Home ($814.1 million). Most MCU entries loiter somewhere between $400 and $700 million domestic, and only a handful ever touched that eight-figure range. So this puts Brand New Day in a different league entirely: the highest-grossing Marvel film ever in its home market. And it isn’t done yet; it’s heading for the all-time top spot in the US, with box office receipts closing in on territory we’ve only ever seen once before.
If you’re into global tallies, the film’s already sailed past the $2.3 billion mark, according to The Numbers. There’s still a gap of $400 million to catch up with 2019’s colossal Endgame ($2.7 billion worldwide), but you wouldn’t bet against it at this rate.
