Black Panther 3, rumoured to be titled 'Shadows of Wakanda', is gearing up for filming in London this June. The story will delve into Wakanda’s uncertain future, with Shuri stepping into the spotlight.

After a lengthy period of speculation, the third instalment in the Black Panther saga appears to be moving forward at last. A recent industry update suggests that production is scheduled to commence in London on 15 June 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the much-discussed Marvel franchise. While an official release date remains under wraps, the start of filming hints that further details are likely to emerge in the coming months.

The project, reportedly bearing the title 'Shadows of Wakanda', is set to examine the nation’s fragility in the wake of T’Challa’s passing. Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright, is expected to take centre stage, assuming both the ceremonial and combative responsibilities left behind by her late brother. This narrative direction aligns with the closing moments of the previous film, where Shuri’s transformation into the new Black Panther was firmly established.

Shuri’s Ascent and Wakanda’s Uncertain Path

With the loss of both her brother and mother, Shuri’s journey from grieving sibling to national leader has been anything but straightforward. The upcoming story is poised to follow her as she navigates the complexities of leadership, all while defending her homeland from new threats. The plot’s timing also suggests that Shuri will survive the events of the forthcoming Avengers films, 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars', which are set to premiere in December and the following year, respectively. Should the timeline hold, the third Black Panther film will pick up after these major Marvel events.

Speculation about the future of the Black Panther mantle has been rife, particularly following rumours linking F1 driver Damson Idris to the role. Addressing the chatter, Idris remarked,

"I am thankful to the fans. Of course, it's rumours, but I love that film. I love the world."

While Shuri is expected to lead this outing, the door remains open for Idris to join the universe down the line, perhaps as an older incarnation of T’Challa’s son, glimpsed briefly in the previous film’s post-credits sequence.

Cast Developments and New Faces

At present, the only confirmed addition to the ensemble is Denzel Washington, who will be stepping into a role crafted specifically for him by director Ryan Coogler. The return of familiar faces is anticipated, with Danai Gurira likely to reprise her role as Okoye, alongside Michaela Coel as Aneka and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. Winston Duke’s Mbaku could also make a comeback, provided his character survives the events of 'Doomsday'.

As the production gears up, anticipation is building among fans eager to see how the story will unfold. The blend of established characters and new talent promises a fresh dynamic, with Shuri’s leadership at the heart of the narrative.
