17 cancelled interviews: the Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian feud is back, and this time it’s over a book
Paris Hilton reportedly pulled a string of interviews for Kim Kardashian’s authorised biography—moves said to have reignited old tensions between the pair.
If you thought the Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton saga was ancient history, think again. There’s a new book in the works—Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future—and it somehow managed to dredge up the ghosts of early 2000s socialite drama. And yes, it’s just as petty as you’d hope.
Scheduling Chaos, Hollywood-Style
So this all comes from Jonathan Van Meter, the bloke tasked with writing Kardashian’s authorised biography. When it came time for research, he was keen on nabbing an interview with Hilton—understandable, given just how intertwined Hilton and Kardashian’s early lives were.
According to Van Meter, getting interviews with everyone else was a doddle. Kim would drop a text, people would appear. But Paris? Oh no. Kim tells Van Meter she’ll check, comes back to say, yes, Paris is up for it, just go through her publicist. Thus begins a four-month odyssey of emails, assistants, and, get this, seventeen cancelled interviews.
Paris Hilton cancelled 17 scheduled interviews for Kim Kardashian’s biography over a four-month period.
Van Meter started off doggedly trying to make it work but, after the umpteenth cancellation, he started to see the whole thing for what it was—far more fascinating than whatever Hilton might’ve actually said. Honestly, at that point you’d sooner get a comet sighting than a Hilton interview. The real pay dirt, though, was Kim’s reaction when she found out.
Old Wounds, Never Healed
When Van Meter told Kim about the endless cancellations, she reportedly lost it. No performance for the cameras—just properly, genuinely furious. According to him, it was like watching a long-buried feud come roaring back. The quote he gave The Hollywood Reporter is hard to beat for summing up their shared baggage:
As Van Meter explained in discussing how things have changed between the two over the years:
'The creation turning on the creator.'
If you need a refresher, it all goes back to the early 2000s, when Kim was literally organising Paris’ wardrobe—yes, really—and Paris was famous for, well, being Paris. Fast forward and Kim built the family empire, with Keeping Up With the Kardashians as her launchpad, while Paris pivoted into music, branding, and whatever else crosses her desk these days. The power dynamic has clearly reversed, which, judging from these frosty non-interviews, is hardly a non-issue for either of them.
No word on why Paris bailed on every single chat, but the dodging alone has thrown long-lingering rivalry right back into the spotlight. It’s a story of publicists and personal grudges—so, business as usual in celebrity land.
Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future is officially out on 27 October. If you want the behind-the-scenes drama spelled out, the book promises plenty of it—whether Paris actually contributed or not.
