Deadline reports the MCU’s X-Men reboot has lined up Samara Weaving to play a major mutant — a fan-favourite role with serious comic pedigree.

Here we go, another shake-up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and this time it's one fans have been baying for since Disney snapped up Fox: X-Men. Well, the mutant ball may finally be rolling. Samara Weaving has, according to several Hollywood insiders, landed the part of Emma Frost for Marvel Studios' next phase. Still unofficial, still hush-hush from Marvel themselves, but the industry sources have spoken.

It's now been seven years since Disney took over the X-Men rights and they've yet to launch a standalone mutant film in the MCU.

X-Men Gets a Fresh Start (At Last?)

Let's just put this in perspective: Disney bought the X-Men and every mutant going back in 2019. Since then, we've had mutant cameos, endless teases, and the animated X-Men '97 nostalgia fest, but no proper MCU live-action film. Now, Deadline is reporting that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige have chosen the 34-year-old Aussie — after what they call an intense audition process. So, yes, there is movement at long last. Marvel hasn't made a statement, but industry confidence says it's a done deal. Reportedly, as soon as they have Weaving nailed down, it's full steam ahead for assembling the entire mutant team.

If you've not clocked her work before, Samara Weaving is very much a rising star, but she hasn't headlined any mega-franchise this size yet. Marvel wasn't subtle picking this one: Emma Frost in the comics isn't just a pretty face. She's telepathic, icy, and has been both foe and friend to the X-Men — starting off as a sharp-tongued villain, then flipping to join the good guys. Very much one of those characters who can steal a scene or two.

Weaving’s Moment

Tough luck for anyone hoping Weaving would stay in the indie circuit: this is blockbuster territory. She's fresh off what may be her biggest box office run to date, taking the lead again in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come — the one where she picks up as Grace MacCaullay from the original 2019 film. Critically, it's gone down a treat (90% audience score), and numbers-wise, it cleaned up after its Hulu debut and even managed proper global rankings on Disney+.

If this all holds, we're about to see Marvel finally cast the rest of their mutant squad. For those keeping score, there's still no announced release date, no on-set snaps, and no official word from the Marvel machine. But with the Emma Frost role locked, those updates could come thick and fast — just in the usual, frustrating Marvel drip-feed.
