Zendaya’s mum was left in tears by a key Spider-Man: Brand New Day moment — and she’s just revealed which scene did it.

Every now and then, you hear a behind-the-scenes tidbit from a superhero film that's more touching than any multiversal punch-up. This week, it's Zendaya's mum, Claire, who's been giving fans a glimpse into what it was like watching her daughter in Spider-Man: Brand New Day—specifically, a certain scene that had her reaching for the tissues. Turns out, even family members of the cast get swept up in the Marvel magic. And to be fair, this isn't just any old Spidey flick—it's breaking records left, right, and centre.

Mum in the Middle of the Action

Brand New Day sees Tom Holland don the suit again as Peter Parker, with Zendaya back as MJ. This time, there's a scene where Peter takes MJ home, but in a classic MCU twist, she has no memory of him at all. Zendaya's mum was actually on set while they were filming it, but—interestingly—she managed to walk in completely clueless about what was going on in the story that day.

Zendaya's mum Claire reflected on Instagram: "I got to see them shoot this pivotal scene… I had no idea what was going on, and the scene made me cry!!"

By the sound of it, she could have asked for some story context but decided to stay in the dark so she could see it play out on the big screen like everyone else. When offered an explanation on set, her answer was quite clear:

"They were like, 'Do you want us to explain what's going on?' I said no!! Let me watch it for the first time in a theater … so when I did go see it….wow!!!"

And, worth noting—Claire went on to call Brand New Day her favourite of Tom Holland's four turns in the Spider-Man role. In her words, "I think this was my fave Spiderman of the 4!!" If you're keeping track, that puts it ahead even of No Way Home and Far From Home in the Parental Rankings.

The Numbers Game

On the business end of things, Brand New Day is seriously outperforming expectations. The film passed $500 million in the US in record time—just seven days—which makes it the fastest ever to hit that mark domestically. That even shaves a day off what Avengers: Endgame managed back in 2019.

Brand New Day crossed $500 million at the US box office in only seven days—a new record.

Globally, it's not exactly struggling either. The total haul is now over $1.2 billion, easily making it the highest-grossing film of 2026. This is all off the back of a reported $225 million budget, so the bean-counters at Sony and Marvel are presumably sleeping quite well.
