Her representatives confirmed she passed away after what they themselves called a ‘brief battle with cancer’. They haven’t said what specific cancer it was, so that bit remains private, but they did confirm she spent her final few days at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. She was admitted there on Friday the 21st, and died the following Tuesday.
Family and Final Message
It was Dolly’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, who actually broke the news to the world on Instagram, just as she’d apparently asked him to do years ago — which, to be honest, is very much her style: thoughtful and organised to the last. Bryan’s official intro: ‘son of Cassie Parton’, and he noted he was representing the Parton and Owens families for the announcement.
He opened up a bit about his own connection to Dolly, mentioning he’d been her head of security for over 20 years — a job his father, Larry, held before him.
