Rumour has it Avengers: Doomsday is set to bump off a major MCU figure — and not the one you’re braced for.

If you thought the MCU was done dishing out surprises, think again. Fans are buzzing over talk that the next Avengers flick, Avengers: Doomsday, isn’t just bringing in some proper cosmic power, but might also knock off a character nobody saw coming. Yes, we’re talking about Eternity — and it’s as mad as it sounds.

Avengers: Doomsday lands in cinemas on 18 December 2026.

The Rumour Mill Goes Galactic

The whole thing kicked off in classic fashion: a back-and-forth on X (the site formerly known as Twitter). A fan account calling itself The Marvelous Geek lobbed out a question about whether any cosmic entities were set to turn up in Avengers: Doomsday. Pretty standard stuff, until another user, @TheJamesMk, replied that not only is Eternity apparently in the film, but Marvel’s allegedly planning to kill the character off in the same outing. That’s right. Eternity popping up, just to get axed — at Marvel scale.

  • There’s no official word from Marvel confirming Eternity is in the film at all.
  • The ‘leak’ is based purely on a reply to a fan’s question, not a press release or casting notice.
  • Even so, the rumour’s spreading like wildfire through the fanbase.

What’s the Big Deal With Eternity?

If you’re not up on your cosmic Marvel lore, Eternity is less ‘bloke in tights’ and more ‘actual living embodiment of time and the universe’. In Marvel’s description, Eternity stands above all mortals, only answering to the mighty Living Tribunal. Powers? Let’s just say ‘beyond human comprehension’ barely covers it.

The MCU has flirted with cosmic entities before, but if this character genuinely shows up — let alone gets killed off — it’d mark a huge moment for the franchise. For one, it signals Marvel is fully embracing its over-the-top cosmic side. And in the context of Doomsday’s plot (which Marvel’s keeping under wraps), you can see why they’d want to up the ante. The film already promises chaos, as Doctor Doom is set to try smashing up the multiverse and take on the Avengers themselves.

Heavy Hitters Return

The cast is stacked, with Chris Evans on board, and Robert Downey Jr. this time reportedly suiting up as the main villain. That, paired with the first trailers teasing non-stop multiversal mayhem, undoubtedly cranks up the anticipation — and has fans speculating about which characters might go out in a blaze of cosmic glory.

No official synopsis yet, and Marvel’s keeping tight-lipped about the extent of the cosmic action. But if Eternity really is going to show up just to get taken out, it’s a move only Marvel would be audacious enough to try at this point in the MCU’s run.
