Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been in development since 2018, and nobody has phoned Orlando Bloom about it
Orlando Bloom has weighed in on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 — including whether Will Turner and Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow could return for another voyage.
It looks like the Black Pearl’s compass is spinning again — talk of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 resurfaced this week, thanks to none other than Orlando Bloom. The man best known to pirate fans as Will Turner turned up at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where he shared what little there is to know about the next "Pirates" adventure, and whether he himself might be back at the helm (or, well, the stern, since Captain Jack still nicks all the attention).
Will Turner’s Future
If you’ve been hoping for a full-blown Will Turner comeback, keep your powder dry for now. Bloom was completely diplomatic when asked by Entertainment Weekly about Pirates 6. He showered old co-stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Keira Knightley, and Jack Davenport with compliments, describing the old cast as a "really good group of people". But any actual update on a return? Not really — according to Bloom, he hasn't heard a peep from the producers about being involved in the new film.

He did float the idea that nostalgia is keeping the franchise alive, with producers and fans unable to resist revisiting the series, which, honestly, is a fair point given Hollywood’s approach to old successes. But when it comes to whether Will Turner is setting sail again, your guess is as good as his at this point.
Checking in with Captain Jack
On the subject of Johnny Depp — and whether Jack Sparrow will swagger back into the action — Bloom was a bit more talkative, at least about their off-screen friendship. He said he still catches up with Depp now and then, for the simple reason that Depp’s "amazing." Showing a touch of sentiment, Bloom went on to call their time working on the franchise "so fun," and admitted "it was such a zeitgeisty thing." (And let’s be clear, for a while the whole planet was parroting Depp’s tipsy-walk impression.)
But does that mean Depp is officially back? Not exactly. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently said they’re still hammering out a script and claimed, "We’re talking with Johnny, and hopefully we can get this done." But if there’s been a deal, nobody’s saying. Depp himself, after being spectacularly fired by Disney during his court battles with Amber Heard, said in 2023 he’d consider coming back, but, to paraphrase, only if the job feels right. Typical Depp — mysterious as always.
