Orlando Bloom exits a star-studded movie production at the last minute

Here we go again: Hollywood’s latest game of musical chairs involves Orlando Bloom, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and a thriller called Reset. The project was motoring along nicely – cast in place, crew ready, script by Jordan Rawlins all set to go, and Matt Smukler signed on to direct. Then, pretty much out of nowhere, Bloom bails.

The word from TMZ (and yes, take your grains of salt) is that the project was relying quite a bit on both Bloom and Chopra Jonas’s names to keep the money men happy. That’s especially true when it comes to international sales – without Orlando, apparently, the whole thing wobbles. From what’s been dug up so far, there’s zero intel on why Bloom pulled out. No statement from his camp, no official explanation, just a fairly awkward silence as everyone tries to keep the film’s wheels from falling off.

To make things messier, the crew is already on set. No time to sit around thumb-twiddling – producers, led by Chopra Jonas herself (who, as it happens, gets final sign-off on Bloom’s replacement), are now scrambling to fill the leading man’s shoes. TMZ claims there are three contenders in play. No names have leaked, and it sounds like even the replacement actors themselves might not know if they’re in contention yet.

All this drama has left the crew, by all appearances, monumentally annoyed – which is fair, given their jobs and the film’s financing might now be swinging in the balance. The whole scenario sounds uncomfortably familiar if you remember Joaquin Phoenix doing a very similar thing in 2024: he dropped out of Todd Haynes’s De Noche just before filming, left the production in limbo, and cost the financiers millions. That one eventually came good—Phoenix was swapped for Pedro Pascal, filming picked up again in March 2026 after a year on ice, but not without a lot of aggro in the process.

What’s next for the stars?

• Bloom’s next appearance will be in Bucking Fastard, Werner Herzog’s latest, which opens at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and is chasing the Golden Lion on 3 September 2026.
• His other project, Wizards! – the stoner comedy with Pete Davidson and Franz Rogowski – remains in limbo, having wrapped in 2022 but nowhere near a release after missing its original 2023 slot.
• Chopra Jonas is next up in Varanasi from S.S. Rajamouli, set for 7 April 2027. That one is carrying serious buzz, not least because it follows the colossal success of R.R.R.
