Star Wars: Starfighter has Aaron Pierre buzzing — and he’s hinting this Lucasfilm sci-fi won’t play by the usual rules.

Right, if there’s one thing the Star Wars galaxy loves more than a new film, it’s a bit of early cast hype—and this latest round comes courtesy of Aaron Pierre, who seems genuinely thrilled to have landed a part in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. The British actor’s been talking up his experience recently, and honestly, it sounds like the kind of giddy nerves you’d expect from anyone getting handed a lightsaber for the first time.

On Set with the Starfighter Crew

Appearing on CBS Mornings, Pierre—who, just to ground you, is 32 and coming off roles like Lanterns—got into just how madly detailed the sets were. This isn’t the first time he’s waxed lyrical about the production, either. Apparently, it’s less like rolling cameras on a soundstage and more like wandering into an alternate universe with doors, mud, and all the trimmings laid out to trip over. For Pierre, it’s clearly all a bit mind-bending. Here’s what he said on telly:

The world that they create for the actors on set is unlike anything you will have experienced.

He also raved about the people around him, dropping high praise on the Starfighter crew. The man’s not shy about enthusiasm; according to him, director Shawn Levy is 'just gold', while Gosling—as in Ryan Gosling, who’s involved too, for those keeping score—is 'golden'.

Anyone who caught Pierre’s earlier chat with GQ will recall he’s still slightly in awe at how the crew build these alien worlds: actual structures you can walk through, climb, and get caked in mud that’s blessedly real. There’s also a running theme about music being piped in before takes start, to keep everyone’s head in the game. You get the sense they’re running a bit of a theatre company crossed with a small architectural firm.

What’s the Film Actually About?

Here’s where things get murky: official details on Star Wars: Starfighter are still under tighter wraps than the Emperor’s favourite cloak. There has been a supposedly leaked plot summary floating about thanks to self-styled scooper FivesWalker. If they’re to be believed—which is far from a sure thing—Mia Goth is playing a mercenary-who’s-also-a-lightsaber-wielder, in the employ of an arms dealer/warlord. Before anyone gets too excited, there’s no watertight confirmation on any of that right now.

Something that is locked in: the script’s coming from Jonathan Tropper and George Lucas himself, so at the very least you know there’ll be some old-school DNA mixed in amongst whatever’s planned. The cast line-up is shaping up to be quite a standout: alongside Pierre, you’ve got Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Amy Adams, Flynn Gray, Daniel Ings, Simon Bird and a handful of others.

Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for a UK cinema release on 28 May 2027.
